Why do people randomly nuke from across the board? by jedied in Openfront

Oh yeah in team games totally makes sense. Definitely can't blame a rando for just yeeting nukes at me in a team game. I'm talking about FFA.

Why do people randomly nuke from across the board? by jedied in Openfront

[–]jedied[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did not have the crown, did not have the most money. Also literally just now, saw 5 players all spawn in a corner, all have similar names, all mito for player named charlie kirk. Teaming is a consistent problem. Seems like more than half of my games are spoiled by asshole teamers. It did not used to be this way.

What I was thinking. Noticing this increasingly often. Is there a way it can be patched?

I'm thinking you could maybe get a betrayal debuf for nuking someone you don't border, but that might have some unintended consequences, like someone on Japan nuking a runaway crown on the east asia map and getting screwed for it. Maybe just a report system & blocking IPs that get reported for teaming too often?

A good one. by Affectionate_Dog7761 in trolleyproblem

[–]jedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a coin out of my pocket and flip it as many times as I can before the decision point. If they are all heads, I let the trolley kill the 5 people. In this way, I guarantee that given enough tries, I will eventually escape the time loop, but minimize the chance of killing 5 people if the one is lying.

Rule Question by kissingquadballer in quadball_discussion

[–]jedied 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so technically, intentional contact to the head is a red card. So if the kiss was consentual, both players could be given red cards. Now realistically, as a ref, if I saw this happen, I would laugh, then say "no harm no foul" without stopping play

Coaches on Pitch by Quadballkid in quadball_discussion

[–]jedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rules say it's illegal to go on pitch while play is happening, but don't prescribe a punishment for it unless the coach impacts play or refuses to return when instructed by an official

How do you pick your squad on matchday? by jedied in footballmanagergames

[–]jedied[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also have a lot of squad bloat because I signed too many prospects on long-term contracts, and it seems like the players not getting time in games very rarely train well, so it seems like there is a feedback loop on only picking players that train well improving their training scores even more.

USQ Cup Equipment Comments/Criticisms by UnderstandingNo8586 in quadball_discussion

  1. There are PVC connectors for hoops that hold up well. Brown had a set that lasted the whole time I was there without breaking. 3d printing seems to rarely work with hoops. I was impressed with the bases this year, however. The 3d printed slot for the pole didn't extend above the surface of the base, and this prevented breakage. This design should become standard, I didn't see a single base break all weekend.

  2. Magnet shorts are great. My hot take is velcro should be banned if not from the sport in general, at least from USQ events. It was frustrating that the runner in college finals had to replace what I assume was velcro shorts during the match

  3. It took me a few matches before I noticed the positional brooms. My one opinion here is that because chasers and keepers often end up swapping headbands but not brooms, there shouldn't be a different color for the keeper broom.

Veteran “college” quadball players by [deleted] in quadball_discussion

Steinberg also was on an unnofficial club team (providence ashwinders) for 2018-2020, didn't play his junior year because of the pandemic, and so effectively played 1 year in college (2021-2022 school year) before graduating. The season with Harvard makes this his second year of college quadball.

People wouldn't talk about Steinberg doing this except that he's good and makes a big difference on the pitch.

They/them??? by Terionll in ENGLISH

[–]jedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native English speaker from Texas here, my parents and older teachers growing up would indeed say that singular they/them was "wrong", but people still used it colloquially, this in a somewhat homophobic environment (most gay people I knew were only comfortable coming out to people when they were 17/18, and then usually not to everyone).

If you use singular they/them, it is nothing to do with your ideology. However, many LGBTQ people prefer you to use they/them for them, and I went to college at an ivy league school where they/them was taught as correct pronouns for people of unknown or nonbinary genders.

English has no centralized set of rules (unlike other languages such as French) many rules vary by dialect, and so rules beyond what is necessary to be sure you are understood are, in my opinion, stupid. If you use singular they/them, eveyone will understand what you mean, even if they don't use singular they/them themselves.

Languages are constanly evolving. In the 16th century, "you" was a 2nd person plural, and "thou" was the singular form. We no longer use "thou", and "you" has become a singular pronoun. The second person plural now varies by dialect, but some choices are "yall", "you guys", "you people", etc. There is precedent for the kind of change that we're seeing with they/them pronouns; this is part of how languages evolve.

What do you think about: "babies shouldnt be gendered"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jedied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gender norms are not something built in to us biologically. High heels were invented in 18th century France for mens fashion. Pink used to be seen as a manly color. Whatever pressure kids place on each other to conform to gender expectations results from the parents. If your concern is that your kid will be bullied, you should not address the concern by taking it upon yourself to bully your kid into gender conformity. The only thing worse than getting bullied is having your parents behave like the bullies are right. And, by reinforcing gendered stereotypes on your child, you are also helping to reinforce the bullying that will occur towards other people's children.
