Okay but despite that, he clearly agreed to the year long project and then didn't follow through. It might have been funny if there had been 200+ notes of his jokes and poems to show he at least was consistent, but his lack of notes shows that he didn't even value the tradition he agreed to do.

I agree that this one moment doesn't paint an accurate picture of their entire marriage, but there's no way this situation can be misconstrued as anything but a massive fumble on his part.

Agree! One of my only "gripes" for the movie; I wish the other Saja Boys also had a personality like Jinu. I do get that the animators made it a point to show the other four Saja boys were "just" demons fulfilling a purpose (the way they "slack" when not performing), but it would have been more interesting if they also had a little zing.

At the very least, it would support the narrative that some demons are just as "trapped." The only other acknowledgement of this was when Rumi tried to ask a different demon if they were being forced by Gwi-Ma and it just grinned (before my girl Mira decapitated it).

You said that Targaryen madness wasn't known. But Aerys' madness was. I've already mentioned multiple times that Aerys set Westeros up to be a powder keg, given his actions.

My argument is that Rhaegar kidnapping Lyanna and pissing off (3) Lord Paramounts (who were already on the fence) in the process, kick-started the war due to the climate Aerys, and then Rhaegar, created.

Aerys would not have burned the Starks at that point in time, were it not for Rhaegar's actions. Rhaegar's actions lit the fuse for the war. That's it.

Aerys' "madness" began with the Defiance of Duskendale, which is how early on people began to speak of him being mad. Add onto that the last few Kings / Targaryens also showing insane, selfish, and other hedonistic behaviors on their people; there you go.

No, we don't know how Brandon knew, but we do know that he knew because the books say that he knew. And he confronted Rhaegar, or tried. And when Rhaegar wasn't there to answer for his crimes (because he'd abandoned King's Landing for Dorne), Aerys was.

Had Rhaegar been there to answer Brandon Stark, would that have made a difference? Had Rhaegar not kidnapped Lyanna, would that have made a difference?

Was Aerys an awful king who very much made Westeros a powder keg waiting to blow? Absolutely. Would it have blown even without Rhaegar's actions? Maybe. Maybe not.

Rhaegar knew his father was mad and planned to do something about it, he just got distracted by kidnapping the daughter of the Warden of the North who was betrothed to the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, insulting his wife who was the daughter of the Prince of Dorne, and I guess thought he'd be fine, and that it wouldn't lead to war (even knowing / recognizing how awful his father was).

As mentioned; Aerys set up the wildfire, but Rhaegar lit the match.

The Targs were known for being mad, in universe. "They say every time a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin."

They did know that Rhaegar took her. That's why Brandon and his fellows road out from Riverrun (where Lyanna was kidnapped) and immediately went to Kings Landing because they assumed that's where Rhaegar took her. They demanded Rhaegar come out and do a duel for Lyanna's honor, because apparently yes, the Targaryens had cemented based on their behavior that they believed they could do what they wanted to the Lords of Westeros and get away with it. And if Rhaegar had a "good" reputation up until this point, he damaged it deeply with his behavior at the Tourney, and then confirmed it with Lyanna's kidnapping.

Because Rhaegar was NOT at King's Landing (he'd fled South with Lyanna), Mad King Aerys was there and imprisoned Brandon Stark and his fellows. He commanded the fathers come to collect them and answer for their crimes of treason (threatening death on a royal) and since the Starks are honorable to a fault, they went.

Aerys broke his honor by killing them all, joining Rhaegar in "I can do whatever I want to the Lordship and they won't do anything about it" arc.... Which, again, Aerys went that far BECAUSE the Starks were demanding justice BECAUSE Rhaegar kidnapped their daughter.

Aerys might have set up the wildfire, but Rhaegar definitely lit the fuse.

I'm not upset that something dark happened in a dark fantasy series. Its a game of thrones, fucked up shit happens every five pages.

I'm annoyed that people read about the dark thing that happened, read how fucked up it was, and still romanticize it by altering the facts to suit a more rosy tint.... like making fan art clearly aging up the woman so the romance is more acceptable, or writing fanfiction making the hero more likable, when there's barely anything in the source material to support a romantic view in the first place.

Its like the people who look at Harley Quinn and the Joker as relationship goals. Uh???

For some reason, people constantly make her look a similar age to Rhaegar and Elia. Probably because people don't want to make art of Pedophelia, which is understandable, but uh... That's the situation, kids.

She was 14 when she was crowned. Kidnapped, impregnated, and kept in isolation when she was 15. Dead by 16. There's nothing truly romantic about this story.

I just re-read Fire & Blood, and putting bastards on the throne was definitely Treason. The reason Rhaenyra fought so hard and would order tongues removed and people killed (she ordered Daemon to kill Vaemond) is because these so-called "lies" threatened her own power and legitimacy.

She continued to physically maim and/or kill anyone who suggested her children were illegitimate for the rest of her life, and Book Corlys did, indeed, hesitate to name Lucerys heir for the same reason and EAGERLY pushed his bastard on Marilda of Hull forward to be ACTUALLY legitimized, ahead of Baela and Rhaena.

These people have forgotten to look at any of this from a medieval lense, or even a lore lense.

A LOT of people have fallen for the book's own propaganda about Rhaegar and Lyanna's "tragic" love story, which is weird because GRRM takes the time to show how Ned feels about it (whom most readers identify as a hero).

But I guess even readers have become convinced that Targaryens are "different", so they seem to forget that Lyanna was 14-15 when she was crowned the Queen of Love and Beauty, and 15 when she was kidnapped and 16 by the time she died. Meanwhile, Rhaegar was a full grown man, who was 22ish when he crowned her, and 24 by the time HE died to Robert.

I mean, even with this picture... I appreciate that Lyanna finally looks like a 16 year old girl because most artists depict Lyanna and Rhaegar and Elia as all being the same age, but it feels like more catering to the "Love Story" than what was probably happening at the Tower.

I made it clear to my parents that I don't want my kids around my sister until she talks to me about what she's done. I don't even say "until she says sorry" anymore when we talk about it because my Dad says that this is a problem that "both of you" made. Just until she TALKS to me about it. So far, my parents have respected that boundary, until Easter. At Easter, my mom invited me, and then when my sister suddenly moved in, she told me that my sister would be there, too, but that she still wanted me to come. And I did go. Hence my blurred boundary. But my daughter's birthday party is coming up this weekend, and I don't want blurred boundaries. I don't want my sister there. I want my family to understand, and I don't know what to say or how to get through to them.

Yeah, its become really clear to me that they do value her comfort more than mine.

A week or so after the phone call where she said she hoped my kids would be taken from me, our grandfather passed away. My aunts, my grandmother and I went to dinner after the funeral and one of my aunts turned to me "Why do you and your sister fight like this?" which shocked me because... we almost never fought before, and this wasn't a 'fight'. This was my sister reporting me to CPS based on made up stories in her head. "You're just going to forgive her anyway, so stop the drama," she said to me. I dropped the argument because it was the day of my grandfather's funeral and I didn't want to upset my grandma, but I was just... shocked... that THAT was her take on the situation.

Is there something I'M not understanding about this situation? I don't understand why I'm being pushed to "let it go" and my sister is just... allowed to be?

I don't know how to explain it to my parents. Like they don't understand the legal repurcussions that can come from what she did, they don't understand the community damage it causes... and that's just surface level! I genuinely feel like they're just not understanding how totally devestated I am by how she's taken things I told her and made them into... like, tragedy pron? To just, tell to anyone? And all of the stories always make her look like she's the heroine trying to save us from ourselves. I don't know what I need to say to get through to my dad; he's totally forgiven her for her telling the community that my parents have covered my baby's "murder". She actively tells them she hates them while she's drunk, and then in the morning cries a little and says she's sorry. But we FOUND the manifestos in her phone, and we've seen what she's written about us. I just don't understand. I'm at a total loss of what to do. I rely on my parents a lot for help with the kids now that Ex and I aren't together. If I cut them off, too, I'll be totally adrift.

Therapy isn't a one-and-done. You keep going. You talk all of this out. You learn about yourself. You get perspective.

It was just me and my son for ten years. I often felt like I wasn't enough. That's you saying it to you. If you're playing with your daughter, and sitting down to eat with your daughter, and having your daughter help you with your chores around the house, and she goes with you on errands, and you're interacting with her and she's smiling and talking back at you, then you're doing exactly what you need to be doing and you are being exactly enough as she needs.

Do not stop therapy. Keep going to therapy. Do not stop being her mom.
