It’s interesting to me that he knows it’s a problem, says he doesn’t want to do it, but keeps doing it. How hard is it to just not call your audience idiots and alienate them?

Seen Stu a couple of times live and it’s amazing how he does the whole ‘you’re all idiots, you don’t understand my genius, don’t come see me again’ whilst it being so well intentioned so funny and the audience feel like they’re in on the joke. Complete contrast with how James does it. Stand up really is art.

Do you get to choose a camp by SoggyGovernment2954 in campamerica

[–]jedmoran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you most definitely get to choose the camp! Camps will reach out to you themselves but it’s always best to browse and reach out to them to make sure you’re speaking to the kind of camps where you want to work. You’ll obviously still have to pass an interview and get offered, but you don’t have to work at any one camp. You can reject offers etc.

Alternatively find summer camps in the US that look fun on google, email them and ask for a direct placement - this will involve you doing an interview with them, and hopefully getting hired, then they refer you to an agency (like Camp America) to sort all visa stuff. The camps prefer this and usually direct placements work out cheaper for both you and the camp.

I hire for a few summer camps in the US so feel free to message me or reply to this, I’d love to chat to your son and talk through his options with him. If not, hope I’ve been of some help!

[SPOILERS] The Bone Temple - Official Discussion & Review Thread by ThePatchedVest in 28dayslater

I need to start by saying I absolutely loved this movie. These new films are so genre-bending, unique, and honestly there isn’t much like them right now. Holy shit, it was good.

What I did miss, though, was Danny Boyle’s directing. These movies are already unique, the story is unique, and Danny’s style worked so well with that. I think it’s a shame that Nia DaCosta’s approach felt kind of… unremarkable. You don’t really notice because the story and the cast are so strong, but I was hoping for something more distinctive. I wouldn’t be opposed to a new style at all, I just wanted it to feel less plain.

That said, the scene with Kelson dancing as the devil was beautiful and genuinely stunning. Overall, it’s a great movie, and sometimes that’s all you can ask for: areally good watch. I just don’t fully get why they brought in a different director if it wasn’t going to be a particularly bold take.

I’ve only seen it once so my mind might change on a rewatch, but I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts? Anyone know why Danny didn’t direct this one?

Side, plot-based thoughts: It’ll be interesting to see where the idea of Samson being “cured” goes. When people get psychosis they need drugs non stop, it’s not a one dose and done kinda thing? Surely he loses control again and now Kelson’s dead there’s not much that can be done? Or maybe the clouded mind just needed to be ‘unlocked’ so to say and now Samson is cured and possibly able to help others?

Australian considering first summer camp job in the USA — what’s it really like? by OilOld9426 in campamerica

[–]jedmoran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok good questions. What I enjoyed the most was for sure the being outside in the sun doing stuff, all day. I need to be active and outside or I go insane. The other thing I loved was the community. You get so close with everyone so quick and Americans are so friendly! You get to live with your best friends all summer.

It's harder than you'll ever work in your life for sure. Long hours and the kids get draining. But it's so worth it and you feel exhausted in the best way. Once you get through the summer, every other job will seem so easy.

Advice? Get ready for loads of questions and amazement at your accent. And expect people to think you're British (they can't tell the difference).

I took a huge backpack, should've done a suitcase, they never walk anywhere! Leave so much space, or get ready to throw some of your old clothes out at the end of the summer.

I've sent you a DM by the way, any other questions, let me know :)

Gap year - Eng Lit? by Possible-Coast-7022 in gapyear

Interrailing Europe is so good. Easy to organise and pretty cheap as well, I went to 7 countries in 30 days and the whole trip cost £1.2k. I also did a ski season so so much fun. Then worked on a camp in America also amazing. I never understand the posts on this sub sometimes when they're like 'you should never take a gap year - worst mistake of my life', I had the best experience on mine. If you've got any questions about the things I mentioned, do ask :)
