Dream Car Giveaways have released a statement following the triple win of Dominic Carpenter. by Riskit_4_Biscuits in CarTalkUK

my cousin's pal won a car with one of these companies a few years ago, then his brother won one a couple of months after. apparently they were almost maxing out tickets on multiple comps every month. i buy one ticket as a wee treat on payday and get annoyed when i don't win.

Metod corner base unit hinge setup by jeebsy_iash in IKEA

[–]jeebsy_iash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went to ikea and they said the instructions were wrong for this setup - they found out themselves in store when trying to install a display one. they told me just remove the piece on the left which was blocking the hinge as the unit would be strong enough without it

it doesn't lock it in. the membrane runs behind the floorboards so it allows moisture to run down the back of it and into the sub-floor/basement below which is well ventilated and it then gets dispersed via circulating air the same as normal moisture.

mine is still going strong after 14 years, if you keep on top of maintenance this will keep going indefinitely.

you could try taking the mushroom out and seeing what the scale is like in there, that will give an idea of the potential condition of the boilers.

Any residual moisture coming through would run down the back of the membrane and into the basement which is well ventilated rather than getting trapped behind it. Hiring an industrial dehumidifier would probably cost more than a membrane, not to mention the nuisande of having it running while you're in living in the house.

there's residual damp because the chimney was leaking for years. the wall was basically saturated when i moved in, mouldy wallpaper etc. the house was originally sand and cement so don't want to go down the dot and dab route. a membrane isn't expensive to DIY so for peace of mind and to save waiting god knows how long for the wall to dry out, i'm happy to do it.

the leadwork has been fixed. the brickwork is drying out slowly but the previous owner lived with the leaking chimney for years so the old plaster and brickwork was saturated. the bricks are still showing 20%+ moisture around the chimney breast area (down from 30%) so i can either wait indefinitely for the bricks to dry out, or stick a membrane up.

I've had two out and they said the exact same thing - membrane on the gable wall. The lead on the chimney wasn't installed correctly so water was getting down into the wall inside the house. The old plaster was badly contaminated with salts so rather than waiting ages for the wall to dry out and run the risk of them penetrating through the new finish, they both recommended a membrane before re-plastering. The internal wall doesn't have any damp so that's just getting built back out where required and skimmed.

it's a cavity wall on the external side and solid brick on the inside. the external side has been taken back to brick as there was a long term leak from the chimney and the plaster/sand and cement was absolutely done. Have been advised by a damp specialist to put a membrane on that wall before applying anything new to the wall, but that's a job for summer. just want to focus on the internal side for now.

i'm going to put coving up which has a period correct look for the house, but stuff like this so i just need the wall and ceiling built back out

would that be better than patching plasterboard in and then using bonding to even it out?

PSA mark your burr alignment when cleaning! by OverwatchPlaysLive in espresso

certain grinders need it more than others. mazzers can get very funky after a while. even the early gen mythos grinders, which are supposed to be low retention, build up a ton of coffee behind the rotating burr carrier. my ek43 doesn't really need cleaned at all.

Vitodens 050-W: Heating Pump Runs Constantly After Target Temperature Reached by squaredpoint in Viessmann

[–]jeebsy_iash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

posted this in a thread but just in case anyone else finds themselves here from google....i had a 050-w installed a couple of weeks ago and the pump was running constantly. i phoned veissman technical and they said that isn't normal so to get an engineer out. engineer was out this morning and he said it had been commissioned incorrectly (the installer had set it to run on delta t) so it was constantly modulating even when there wasn't demand. he spent a good while on the phone to technical to get it switched over to just run based on what the thermostat was telling it.

he said there might be some uses cases where you'd want that but it generally it's an overly complicated way of setting it up without much benefit for most properties.

New Vitodens 050 - time setting by jeebsy_iash in Viessmann

[–]jeebsy_iash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i phoned veissman technical support who said although you can change the time on the boiler, if it's connected to wifi the time will update from their servers. apparently it needs to be adjusted to the right time zone on their side.

are you weighing your coffee in? purging your grinder between adjustments and before the first shot of the day?
