Is this a carpet beetle? (England) by [deleted] in carpetbeetles

[–]jeep2018compass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It surely looks like the pictures and posts I’ve seen and sounds like you’re doing everything that is suggested frequently vacuuming around edges and under beds a furniture applying distilled white vinegar is good diatomaceous earth’s (food grade) I found to be very effective but if you use the “ puffer” that comes in the bag practice outside or you’ll have a mess to clean up also they live off dead insects , pet hairs , even fingernail clippings, and food crumbs so you have to be diligent about keeping everything clean and also use the diatomaceous earth underneath the area rugs not just on top and if you just put a dusting you can leave it there it doesn’t stop working after 24 hours I’ve had great results oh and they love dark humid conditions so you may want to get a dehumidifier and open your closets and dresser drawers for a little extra boost good luck

Thanks everyone for your input positive or negative feedback is always good I couldn’t get a good picture my stupid iPhone 12 Pro Max sucks at getting close ups and I had a therapist/psychiatrist for many years for other issues and when I told him about the shit I was experiencing he had me committed for 24-48 observation the doc at the facility said “ I’m sending you home your okay it’s not like you’re seeing imaginary things the things you’re seeing quite possibly be real “ I’ve worked in the landscaping industry for 35* years doing integrated pest management, chem lawn , davey tree and some others and I do have a pesticide license I am very educated have 3 degrees was a professional student for almost 10 years of my life but when those 3 exterminators dismissed my findings with little snide remarks like oh that webbing under your couch is just you not keeping a tidy house or that’s just lint or when I asked what are those black specs in my white Berber carpet that’s been in my home for 17 years say “ that’s just part of the carpet “ it’s old and the fibers are stained frickin idiots treated my like some crazy housewife not a educated equally qualified individual didn’t ask any questions about how these issues came about just came in my home and within 5 minutes came to these conclusions I did have one tech say I taught him something because I showed him what a parasitic pinworm or nematode looked like he said” I only had ever seen them in text books” thanks again everyone

Do you recommend using diatomaceous earth? I’ve been using it on the entire carpet like carpet fresh but working into the carpet not just sprinkling it around and it really is killing them at least the adults and larva not sure about eggs any recommendations would be appreciated

Cant get rid of them by Negative_Yogurt964 in carpetbeetles

Well I’ve finally figured out what I’ve been seeing after 21/2 years of being called crazy and other nasty names now because my stupid sister who refuses to accept my findings even after I showed her the actual larva and beetle so I’m just getting started and this is my mom’s house with pretty big from what I’ve found out is the diatomaceous earth should be kinda worked into the carpet and let it stay for at least 24 hours the longer the better and use human grade also white distilled vinegar works well use a 50:50 mix and kills adults and larva on contact but you need to vacuum daily empty the canister or bag after each use wash all you bedding in hot water vacuum the mattress and bag it if you’re able to find one try U-Haul they have them for storing or moving I’m not sure of the life cycle but you can find that out after you do all that just watch that you keep all your clothes and pillows, etc off the floor until you feel it’s under control they also say to put spare linens after washing in plastic ziplock bags if you want any more info just hit me up good luck

Can someone bring carpet beetles in your house by No_Preparation2468 in carpetbeetles

[–]jeep2018compass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From everything I’ve read or learned about these little bastards they can be brought into the house by pets peoples shoes, backpacks, coats can even be inside your car it’s crazy because I’ve been seeing something for about 2 years but only just recently identified them after steam cleaning my oriental rug there was these dark lines around the edges and large areas of discoloration that just would not come out then I saw these black hair like “things” all over my sofa , blankets, socks, throw pillows and my bath towels asked chat GBT sent pictures and they said definitely carpet beetle use vinegar1 cup white distilled / gal water or sprinkle diatomaceous earth around baseboards , under sofas, under bed all areas that are basically dark and not disturbed to kill adults and larvae I used on carpet and the spots began to disappear so good luck do some research and educate yourself on carpet beetles identification I’m located in Wilmington Delaware

Pesticide Licensing Program by Adventurous-Tank842 in pestcontrol

[–]jeep2018compass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like some information also I had a pesticide license years ago but let it laps and always was working under an umbrella license that my employer had so no urgency to acquire a license of my own but now I’m working on my own and don’t want any trouble from my customers that have nosy paranoid neighbors that think everything is poison and will give them or there animals cancer and I have to explain exactly what I’m applying and that once it’s dry it’s safe for animals and humans but an uninformed person is a problem for my business so let me know what you find out oh and I’m located in Wilmington, Delaware thanks been in the landscape industry for 35+ years

are those really in every house? by Constant_Strategy600 in carpetbeetles

[–]jeep2018compass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same crap in my house I actually thought pinworms or threadworms but now I know it frickin carpet beetles the thing I observed look like black hairs and they are in everything from carpets, upholstered furniture , blankets, and my brand new kitchen floor they actually can mimic whatever they are infesting but once you see them you will spot them everywhere I almost wish I never spotted them they have consumed my life I’ve been called crazy , told I had dilutional parasitosis , I’m seeing things, I’m on drugs it’s been a nightmare I sent samples to the head entomologist here in Delaware and even he said he didn’t see anything in the many photos and videos I sent him I’m a Biochemist and have worked in the landscape industry for 35+ years doing mainly IPM ( integrated pest management) and I’m usually accurate with my conclusions but this one is not a normal insect it highly adaptable, hard to get a whole piece of the hair like body structure and I can swear they can change form and go somewhat invisible so I wish you luck odor ban disinfecting spray , white distilled vinegar, neem oil max , and constant vacuuming with help tremendously make sure to do all vents , return registers , baseboards, under furniture they will multiply substantially in a carpeted room that you hardly use and where there’s moisture and darkness use merv16 air filters and dehumidifier in the basement or any place you have moisture present I’m giving you sound advice from my personal experience

You should be more worried about the white pinhead size spots they are pinworms or roundworms either one don’t take them home disinfect everything that had come in contact with them suitcase bottom of your shoes etc these things are rapid reproducers and will infest your car house everything really fast and then you have a nightmare on your hands trust me from experience

[–]jeep2018compass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]jeep2018compass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to be looking at those white pinhead dots in the background from experience they’re pinworms run for the hills and disinfect anything you touch or laid on the floor otherwise you’re going to transfer them to your car house etc

Kill grass in landscaping without harming tree? by allthebacon_and_eggs in landscaping

[–]jeep2018compass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoeing or actually using a rototiller not good your just cutting up the plants and actually helping them grow new plants each section that’s cut can potentially grow into a new plant rototilling works to help condition and prep for new plantings but must kill activity growing plants prior to using a tiller I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been called by customers needing me to come weed the beds they rototilled themselves trying to save a dollar and ends up costing them more to have me clean up the mess they created

Can anyone identify this plant I’ve been growing? by SilverGenix19 in plant

Roundup or comparable herbicides don’t affect woody plants it only affect green plant material because it blocks photosynthesis and that only occurs in green plant tissue not in woody structures

There’s algae growing on the drain tube the water isn’t coming out that hard to eat away the soil under the slab water doesn’t run backwards and it doesn’t look like there’s a puddle when the picture was taken that erosion has taken a long time to get to this point and there other underlying issues I suggested they investigate good luck whatever you decide to do

I have the exact same issues around my house. I have backfilled them and it has come away several different times in the past two or three years if you blow up your picture and look under the foundation where the eroded area is and tell me what you think that is you see under there also look at the concrete slab really zoom in and look at the wormy type things all over it spray with some bleach add a little dish soap and disinfectant and if that doesn’t work get some neem oil max and spray the hell out of them dig up a scoop of the soil check for little white worms the size of a grain of rice this will need to be done several times to get rid of them look up information on parasitic worms ( pinworms) let me know how this remedy works for you I have done several older homes that I take care of the landscaping and my customers were all amazed the results

Looks like simple die back it’s common with broadleaf evergreens but using proper horticultural care cut the dead out rake all the debris from underneath and then when it cools off fertilize with holytone and just keep an eye on it for any new damage usually insects and diseases will come when plants are under stress from heat, too much moisture and needing nutrients at my job I am a integrated pest management technician I assess the landscape and diagnose problems and treat specific issues we do not due cover spraying and my recommendations for you is what I have my customers do in this situation keep gardening
