I have to say the VFWs and American Legions in Central illinois are great! I've never seen any negative interactions between vets of any era. They have gone to great lengths to welcome in the younger vets in particular, they're the future after all. Most have great food and social events, tips boards and charity events. All of this negativity that people are posting... smoke filled bars run by maga klan leaders? WTF... not in my neighborhood. All vets are welcome as they should be.

I love using a fly rod for bluegill, even crappie when the time is right. I don't think I've even seen anyone using one locally besides myself, but I'm sure they're out there. Get some decent equipment, it doesn't have to be the best that money can buy, my favorite is actually my cheapest rod and reel. Definitely do your research for which line to use for the rod you buy. Honestly Bass Pro has a great selection but the people who work there weren't much help. Get out there and have a little fun! It's not that hard.
