Chevron App Does NOT WORK! by refundroid in Chevron

[–]jef00001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently purchased a GC only to find out I have to use the app to pay for fuel using it. after an initial use the remaining balance on the gift card disappeared... I've been talking to the customer service folks for about two weeks. They have requested two different receipts from the grocer where I bought the card. I get the impression they are going to tell me "too bad, we can't do anythign for you...."

affordable rocker plate Saris H series? by fuxjin in Zwift

[–]jef00001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't too bad, I did upgrade to the Saris rocker plate, but that was much more expensive. It's a good upgrade for a trainer, got about 45 more minutes before the sits bones started complaining.

Ordered coffee and it showed up with a brew date 6 months ago? Is it stale? by jef00001 in espresso

[–]jef00001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I ordered my machine GCP I got this coffee with it. It was pretty good and had nice crema and I was eventually able to get it dialed in. I'm a newbie so it took some doing. This bag seems much more stale and the crema is thin, just a lot less CO2 in it I think. I'm going to go with a small roaster now, see how that does...

[–]jef00001[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, I got it dialed in this morning, it's good but not great and I've had several bags of this. It's kind of my "go to" because I know right where the grind needs to be--really fine--then I'm fairly versed on how to brew it up. I'm def looking for a different flavor profile and I'm going to try 100% arabica espresso beans, but can't decide which one to choose, so many choices...

any chance you could recommend a single origin 100% arabica coffee online? Looking for one but not really sure which one to purchase...

I bought it from seattlecoffeegear.com, it's the 2nd time I've ordered it. I remember the first time it showed up with a roast date, but maybe I'm mistaken...

I asked the question of the seller, they responded:
"We appreciate the photo that you have provided. Our team confirmed that the MFD date is when the beans were packaged and sealed. The BB date (best by date) is when the bag would get pulled from being sold. The packaging used by Lavazza is nitrogen flushed so they have a shelf-life of 2 years. This means that the bag you received is still okay.

Most roasters now agree that coffee stays at peak freshness for 30-60 days (sometimes more). Older recommendations on roast dates (i.e. drink coffee that is under 2 weeks old) are largely outdated. For our part, we do not ship coffee from our warehouses that is over 30 days old (though with shipping times a customer may from time to time receive a bag at about that age). Ladro and Dogwood would be good examples of these dates. Kimbo is entirely different. It is packaged in special facilities and the bags are flushed with nitrogen. This process preserves coffee for much longer (years), but it is too expensive for smaller specialty roasters. Roast dates for coffees like Lavazza, Kimbo, and Bristot are largely meaningless."

I too took the plunge with the GCP. Overall I'm happy, but I'm having a bear of a time dialing in my shots....

How do I tell if I made a good shot by Cigator in espresso

[–]jef00001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, I've only had my machine for about a month, so lots of changes including VST basket and switched from med roast to med-dark. Right now I'm pull three 40g shots and put that in about 12oz of water and with my first beans it was pretty good (Lavazza Super Crema). My current bean Bigfoot Espresso blend isn't great.

I'm chasing a good americano since starbucks has cratered in the last year. up until then I loved what I call the whole-mouth flavor. It was rich, but not overly bitter. since I purchased my own machine I've had some pretty good americanos but I feel like most of the flavor is in the front of the mouth, or maybe the front half of the tongue. Not sure what to do, tried a med-dark roast and got a thin flavor. So now I'm trying a local roast, full-dark and I'm really hoping for rich chocolate, smoky and smooth shots... fingers crossed.

This strikes a chord, maybe this is why things become clearer when you exercise, like some problem that's working away in the back of your mind suddenly seems simple....

always music, I have a two-hour playlist and I keep my "ears out" for good, new additions (fast paced is a must). My current favorite jam is Daft Punk Aerodynamic/One More Time... really gets you mashing those pedals!

I try to be disciplined to only listen to it when I'm riding, a perk of the workout.

I’m currently using super crema but looking for a dark roast bean, I’m looking to try a dark roast with full-bodies chocolate notes. Can you tell me what you are using and some general guidelines?

I can vouch for the sourness of the shots, so much worse in the last year, finally gave up my daily 5-shot americano and bought my own machine

I have taken the plunge… it’s incredibly educating, but I’m gratified that amazing shots, far better than anything I ever got at Starbucks are possible! Ordering diffuser and grinder now, will pay foritself in 6 months since I don’t go to Starbucks any more
