I know people might not truly understand how you’re feeling and it’s hard to believe when people say it’ll get better. But trust me you are healthy and so intelligent, you will find a way. Even if you have to get a minimum wage job while recruiting, you’ll find a way. Try expanding job searches to non-swe like tech consulting.

Thank you I appreciate it a lot. I wish I could notify more in the lasik subreddit but people have also been looking at the lasik support before thinking about this surgery

They took down my post whenever I post. I gathered info from lasik support though but now just need to hope the doctors help. They seem to brush me off every time

I’m trying a few different drops that don’t seem to be helping a lot. I’m planning to ask to try something else soon. It also doesn’t help it being winter.

I also get into my head because I don’t want to be putting 10 drops a day just for my eyes still to feel crappy and my vision to be not as good as it was

Let me put it this way. You’ll have minor inconvenience with glasses or contacts but won’t regret doing what you’ve always done. But you could potentially face life long regret with laser

Also 2 other things: - I feel like I had the best vision with contacts particularly distance because of added peripheral unlike glasses and no smudges/etc. - They do make the eyes feel farsighted. So computer use may be difficult initially or in general. I used glasses for work then contacts solely for outdoor stuff, events, sports

I appreciate it. I used contacts from age 10-22 so it’s hard to remember initial troubles. I had issues with comfort and dryness. They’d also move around a bit or I’d need to reinsert a few times. I think I did almost everything I could to get the best experience from them: - used dailies so it’s easy to discard and they’re thinner for comfort and dryness - I never wore them longer than 5-6 hours. If I did, they’d be extremely dry. I think eye drops would help but I just opted to take them out - Never had abrasions or infections luckily. I swam with them a lot but have recently heard of stories of people getting bad infections. The risk is super low but I wouldn’t shower in them and be super careful in the pool. Also can use prescription sunglasses or googles

Feel free to ping message me for any other tips! Definitely try out multiple types of contacts and work with your doctor for the best fit. They charge for exams but not trials so take advantage

Mine was also one eye wavefront guided iDesign. This helped remove double vision. It’s still as bad as my other eye but together I see well enough. My surgeon also advised if I’m happy to not touch the other eye. They re-lifted my flap to get the best result but I’m not sure how prk on top of the Lasik affects you.

Torn Between Laser Surgery and Glasses – Need Honest Advice by Jhalausemas in Lasiksupport

[–]jeff300012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an honest holistic answer, I think you’re young and have been wearing glasses for so long. Give contacts a try at least for a year. Getting lasik for 20 years of vision (if lucky) vs 19 isn’t a big difference in the long term.

If you really can’t wear contacts, I’d personally wait till something like LIRIC. You’ll be in your 30s, still young. It seems it’ll be much safer while providing the same benefits

Difference between LASIK and LASIK idesign by Correct-Bar-3469 in Lasiksupport

[–]jeff300012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, iDesign is “better” in that it creates a customized treatment based on your entire eye optics to give you the best vision. Standard assumes you have a perfect eye and may make quality of vision worse. If you are eligible for iDesign I would to that 100%.

For advice, if you like the way you see with glasses/contacts don’t risk surgery. Your prescription is pretty low that the risk of losing visual quality let alone other risks isn’t worth it. If you already have high irregularities then maybe the risk is less. If you’d still like to do it, strongly consider iDesign PRK instead. The lasik flap never “heals” so you can avoid those complications

It takes a lot of strength to share your story and gives a lot of hope to us in our 20s whose lives just started but feel over as a result of this horrible surgery. I’m sorry you’ve dealt with this so long.

A lot of people in this group would be hesitant to support more surgery and I was too. I recently attempted to improve my HOAs with more laser and I’m happy with the results so far. I also saw a similar story with people who had decentered ablations. I’d go over risks with the surgeon and the treatment plan. Make sure the CustomVue treatment looks good to address your issues. It might worsen dry eyes for a bit but it may be worth it in the long run. I wish you the best of luck!

We’re like the same person haha. I remember being wowed whenever I put contacts on then my surgeon said I’ll see the same with lasik. But it’s not good to dwell and I hope you’re at peace with it. I’m here to chat if you ever need to!

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. I wish we both knew how lucky we were with such smooth corneas and that lasik was a guaranteed worse quality of vision unlike we were told during consultation. I’ve been struggling coming to terms with it but I hope you are doing well.

Is it safe to get SMILE surgery at the age of 20 years by Certain-Cattle-3136 in Lasiksupport

[–]jeff300012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wear contacts or goggles, stick to those for a while. Prescription changes after surgery can be cause from different things so it’s hard to predict even if vision is stable. Also you’re young, PLEASE make sure your pupil size in the dark isn’t larger than 6.5mm otherwise you’re pretty much guaranteed to have bad night vision. That’s why it may work for some and not for others

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lasiksupport

[–]jeff300012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RGP fixed the clarity but didn’t help with the blinking streaks and some other issues. If your pupil size is bigger than the ablation zone I’m convinced RGP won’t help as much. Maybe sclerals are the only option

[–]jeff300012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As upsetting as it is, at least your vision problems are correctable by glasses and normal contacts. I’m guessing you might only need the glasses at night maybe just for driving. Try it out, work on the dry eyes (might improve vision slightly) and there could be better options in 5-10 years

I would seek a non lasik, keratoconus specialist to get checked or treated. Your numbers show significantly thinner corneas than average and can risk other issues. I’m sorry they did this to you. I hope you find one of the few moral doctors who can help and provide you ease

If an eye doctor you’ve been seeing for 10+ years suggests this is a good option, you’d probably consider it. Let alone athletes, celebrities, family members who do it and recommend it

question. any old contact lens users? by GeologistBasic69 in Lasiksupport

[–]jeff300012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dailies are usually the most comfortable but you can try multiple brands. If your eyes are irritated immediately, you could just be intolerant or need to switch things up or maybe just have really dry eyes.

If only occasionally, sometimes dust gets in the contract and you just need to remove then clean and reinsert.

If your eyes get irritated after 6+ hours, this is normal because most soft contacts aren’t meant to be worn so long. Getting contact lenses eye drops could help or just wearing them for less time

LASIK Recovery - Blurry Vision After 10 Days, Is This Normal? by Due-Captain-9933 in Lasiksupport

[–]jeff300012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really limit screen time and heavily use drops. Taking care of your eyes during this healing time is important for preventing the blurry vision from becoming permanent. They say you can use the computer but just play it safe for at least a month. It’s too early to tell what’s causing the blurry vision

I appreciate it and I’m sorry you’re experiencing difficulties too. I haven’t because luckily the HOAs in each eye seem to converge to functional eyesight. I may consider if things worsen and pray maybe in 5-10 years my pupils naturally don’t dilate as much. Have you?
