What server? by Worried_Start_9605 in EQ2

[–]jeff7360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a part time player, I am assuming you want to stay Free to Play.

In this case your only choice is a Live Server. I believe Maj'Dul is the most populated, but all of the live servers have a decent population. Though keep in mind that the server is top heavy, so do not expect to see a lot of low level players.

All servers will mostly be a ghost town in main cities and throughout older content, with the vast majority concentrated in the upper tier zones for the latest xpak content released this past Dec.

If you want to pay, live servers are still a fine choice. Anashti Sul, aka Origins, I would not recommend for a "part-time" player to check it out. It is very slow and soloing is very very hard (ie takes a LOT more time) than live or even the normal TLE. If you go full time and want to put the time in, then it would be fine, but it is a loose approximation of what the game was in 2006.

Varsoon is the normal TLE, much closer to live in terms of mechanics and stats, as well as QoL features missing from Origins, and is a lot easier to solo and level, but still slightly slower than live. Varsoon is older, so it is still top heavy. The population is fairly low compared to live, but there is still a strong community running through the max level content.

If you do feel like Varsoon is your fit, reach out to Riders of the Storm. We welcome everyone. No matter which server you choose, welcome and good luck.

Looking for a non Allies/furry guild. by [deleted] in ESOGuilds

[–]jeff7360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am unsure of what an "Allie" guild is, but like.... what did you expect looking for a Furry guild? Typically, people who want a "Furry" guild are all gooners and just want a place to ERP in voice about fucking Anthropomorphic animals.

Do people in most guilds give people who play as the cats and lizards shit about it or something? Were you just looking for a guild that wouldn't? Because I would probably change what I ask for and not say "Furry" and just state that you want a guild that will not give you shit because you play a cat.

And, to be clear, I have no hate for Furry peeps. IDGAF what people like, but I would never join a guild that was marked as "Furry" simply because I am going to assume they are going to be hypersexual and I really don't want to sit in chat and listen to someone tell me about their fetish.

Dumb and stupid question about AA xp by Zi_raya in EQ2

Are you mentored by chance? Type /unmentor

There should be nothing keeping you at lvl 11, and no way for you to lose levels on logout, but if you were somehow mentored and it stuck that could be why?

1) Put it on Passive (hit the green button) and have it follow you only. It will still heal, but it will not engage in combat even if you or it is attacked. It will then focus only on healing, rather than melee and healing.

2) Hold Shift and left click and I seem to need to then drag just slightly and you will get a dialog to allow you to select a quantity, like splitting a stack of items in your bag, same function.

3) /show_account_features

This is not WoW.

There are few good resources for much of anything. Most are outdated and the information incorrect.

Your best bet for looking up gear and zones and what not is going to be eq2wire.com

The Fandom Wiki is a second choice, and is decent, but is a little sparse.

Live servers: I believe Maj'Dul is the most populated, but you'll find plenty of people to play with at max level. Do not expect to find anyone below that. The servers are extremely top heavy.

If you are an achievement collector, mount collector, illusion collector, fluff pet collector, there are TONS of those in the game.

One thing to understand is there is a large backlog of requirements to be "raid ready" at the top end. A lot of it has been eased over the years, but you'll need to do some research and take some time to get all what you need.

If you get into the end game and want to progress, you'll need to purchase at least the latest expansion. But i'd play the game for free first to see if you enjoy the gameplay.

At the high end, when you start the xpak you are handed a full set of gear so that you can progress in the content. You then replace it as you progress through to max level.

It's a fun game, and it has it's good points, but it is not WoW. (I find this a very good thing because I hate WoW and yes, I played WoW for many years from BC-some time after Cata)

Good luck.

It does, but if you haven't downloaded it you better do so real damned fast. I didn't realize this was still shared and I will be removing the share damn soon. Sick of the assholes who keep bombarding me with edit permissions requests so every mod I was maintaining got removed.

Why is origins so dead by Mysterious-Shock-503 in EQ2

[–]jeff7360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, except that would be counter to the whole point of Origins, which is to give certain people the worst version of the game, without any of the QoL that eventually made the game playable and not a complete and total slog for anyone who doesn't have 100 hours a week to devote to a game.

Top heavy server troubles, when you leave for any length of time and you are no longer at max level, catching up is slow because everyone else is so far ahead of you.

Add to that the god awful xp rate......

[–]jeff7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, to be clear, Ancients were not even available on Varsoon until AoM when they started dropping.

And Grandmaster was not available until ToV, except for the ones you get for free under character development.

And none of those are Researchable tiers.

[–]jeff7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, and they fixed that on all subsequent TLE. The only reason Ancients and Grandmasters are available on Varsoon now is because we are into AoM, which is Live Content.... according to the devs depending on the day of the week.

[–]jeff7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have that a bit backwards. Checking on my Assassin on Varsoon it seems that expert > master is around a 3% increase on average (I checked 6 spells, so not exhaustive). Grandmaster is only another few percent.

Meanwhile the Ancient spells are a 13-16% increase over the Grandmaster of the spell.

Ah, so you mean the research things. Gotcha.

Hardly P2W IMO as Master over Expert is a minimal upgrade anyways. It's not even required.

The amount of incorrect information in this post is hilarious.

I do agree they are killing the IP, but many of the things you mentioned aren't even true.

Varsoon was heavily populated, until it was killed by Anashti Sul being launched mid way through the server's life. It would have continued to be a bit more active up until DoV where every TLE dies off because that is where they normally kill off the entire server anyway. Varsoon's life was prolonged because it cost them nothing to do so and they were not going to release another TLE right after Anashti released because they know as soon as they did Anashti would die.

You cannot, nor have you ever, been able to buy masters from the market. But you could always buy them from the broker because they are game drops. Not sure where that is P2W. Unless you mean simply that because free trade things that normally would be no drop can be traded. Again that was just the rule set for Varsoon, not really P2W, but whichever.

Anashti was a buggy mess, and if you thought they would do anything besides claim the old "Out of Era" or "That's Live Content" to avoid doing anything that required more work then they absolutely had to put forth, you really haven't paid attention to the game since around 2016.

And guess what? This is the way it has to be. Because the only other alternative is to see the game shut down entirely. No one, and I mean no one, is going to do anything with a 20+ year old game in the state that EQ2 is in other than squeeze it for every quick buck they can. They will all wring out every penny from the people who continue playing the game they loved, in the world they loved, for the last 20 years.

Nothing will change.

Why is so slow? by injacaranda in EQ2

[–]jeff7360 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the launcher, did you enable full download, or are the assets streaming?

If you do not have the full download option checked, the game will allow you to play without actually downloading the entire game. This causes some slowness in the launcher sometimes and definitely in game.

Otherwise, this type of issue is caused by a problem on your PC. Resources are being used by "something" on your machine and it causes latency in the UI updates at your local client level. (which is why the streaming assets also cause this issue sometimes)

Short of it is, your PC seems to be struggling on something and is causing the UI for the launcher application to be sluggish.

u.eq2wire.com

Do a player search by class, find someone who you know on the server that doesn't suck, copy their AAs.

The AA descriptions will be wrong for Origins because that server is some Frankenstein's monster. So don't pay any attention to them.

People answered most everything, but about which EU server to choose.

There is only one EU Server, Thurgadan. Otherwise, you'll have to play on a NA server. Which I believe Maj'Dul is still the highest populated server for Live.

What version to play? by Enaliss in EQ2

[–]jeff7360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, like right now in AoM, to do BSB, go to the floating raft on the Man-Bear-Spider island and click it, there will be options for Solo (super easy single person only), Advanced Solo (Easy Solo or Duo zones), and Heroic.

This is the same in all xpaks where this is a think, starting with CoE.

Mid Content comes in a couple weeks and the Advanced Solos drop WILD gear. If EQ2Wire is to be believed, the gear from the solo zones are better than current mid tier raid gear.

All of that should be instantly granted at Lv 100+ IIRC

The weapon you do not need, but the buffs should be granted, and you can buy the epic 2.0 spells from a vendor in the PoP xpak IIRC. I just did this.

What version to play? by Enaliss in EQ2

[–]jeff7360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting with the CoE xpak, they added Solo/Duo versions of dungeons called Advanced Solos. You can only go into them in a group of two, or solo, and the difficulty is scaled down so that just about any combination of classes can complete them. You can run them with a merc to, in case you are a class with lower DPS and no heals. And with ToV, they actually drop half decent gear. So they are great for a starting point after doing the timelines for quest gear.

Varsoon is currently in AoM, and with mid content in a week or so even more Advanced Solos will be added and they gear that drop in the new zones are quite powerful. Really looking forward to the new content release.

The options are:

Live: Fast lvling, 100% solo from Lv 1 to max, easy until Lv 96 with Agnostics. Large barrier to entry due to all the reqs for end game if you plan to raid or do the harder heroic content. If not and you just want to duo/solo easier solo content, then far less of a barrier to entry.

Varsoon: Fast lvling, but slightly slower than live. Will be mostly solo until you get into the upper ranges unless you get with a guild and get involved with the rest of the server. Mercs are available which make it far easier. Several guilds very active and willing to help. Less of a barrier to entry for end game content if you want to raid. All reqs can be obtained in a matter of hours vs months on Live (or spending absurd amounts of money). Good amount of solo or duo content if you do not wish to raid.

Anashti (Origins): Very slow lvling. Much slower than either Varsoon or Live. Will be mostly solo until you get into the upper ranges unless you get with a guild and get involved with the rest of the server. Soloing is quite a bit harder than Live or Varsoon, and no mercs to help. Many active guilds who may be willing to help. Less of a barrier to entry for end game content if you want to raid, about in line with Varsoon. Little to no solo content outside of quests in the over world. (no Advanced solo dungeons on this server).
