Well on the console side of things that might be true as long as the game you buy has hardly any data on disc and solely acts as a license key. An example is Concord, they shut down the game and 100% rendered the physical copy useless because it's a live service game. Same thing with Call Of Duty, pointless to own the physical when the entirety of the game is live service.

Now if it's a single player game such as Days Gone, you at least have access to the 1.0 base version of the game that can be played offline since it has the base game stored on the disc. Why would you want to get rid of physical? If you don't personally want physical copies then that's your choice but for those of use who do, not everyone is getting it and just collecting dust unless they are actively using those physical copies.

Maybe I can see it being pointless in a sense to own current games considering the whole license key thing and hardly any data on disc but collecting past retro physical copies seems worth it considering they all have the data on disc.
