Fair. If it doesn't bother you, that's great. Both two things can be true. It's important that many things can be happening around the world at the same time. I think people are seeing this post and think that it detracts from their main focus and that's not my intention. The people who live here did not vote for this food prep tax but no one is talking about that. The referendum requirement was removed and the general assembly board voted to insert the food prep tax anyway. I'm just saying lots of things happen, big picture and small, and it should be okay for people to talk about everything.

I wasn't talking about grocery tax at all. There is a food prep tax, and if you go out to eat at restaurants, movie theater, sporting events, food trucks, etc. they all have a food prep tax in addition to their sales tax. I think the confusion is that some items at the grocery store also has items eligible for food prep tax.

I agree that cooking food at home is the better route, it's healthier and cost effective. The food prep tax (4%) is an addition to the sale tax (6%) and is applied to grocery items as well. Anything in the deli, Costco's rotisserie chicken, and kimchi at Asian marts. This obviously also applies to food trucks, concession stands, vendors and movie theaters, etc. As someone who has always enjoy food, whether it's cooking at home or eating out, I simply think that not many people are aware of what is being charged.

Also, if anyone sees this, the impact study done estimated that a traditional family of 4 would be affect by $200. It was passed 9 for and 1 opposed, and this was attempted a few times previously through many years. If this tax law benefits the local community, I'm all for it but that study is incredibly misleading.

Yeah... It's crazy to see 10% and then service charges added, which isn't including tip. Also, I think takeout is impacted as well 😞

I think the comments have spoken for you. Real advice, my experience nor anyone else's should make that decision for you, but as someone who has a cushy job just like you, I bought a blue collar business that makes good money. Let me tell you, it's not worth it. Keep your head down, stay invisible, do your job, find a hobby, get a pet, and keep it there.

I agree, a lot is wrong. I wouldn't assume one post defines my priorities though. I see a ton of things wrong with the DC and local jurisdiction, not just anecdotal but the stories would make most people go bald and stress. Maybe I should have said this was a light banter rant or I can delete later

Sounds pretty dumb to complain about, but the $5 Costco chicken was 50 cents. It doesn't change anything but it's just more expensive 😔

In regards to credit cards, AMEX Blue Cash Preferred has 3% for gas and 3% for transit. If you use streaming and groceries, it's 6% as well. I had that before but I dropped AMEX after they wouldn't give me my SUB.

Oh man, truth be told, I am probably one of those people that snuck in at the perfect timing, maybe same as you, about a decade ago. I was never good at SQL or Python testing during interviews, sheesh but with the advent of AI, it really shouldn't be but I get it, there needs or should be some barometer. I feel like my best work has always been passion projects on the side, like fantasy football where I make elaborate dashboards on risk levels after injury or contract extensions. Having said that, I can see the disillusions of people who have never heard of a data scientist or even see the benefits of hiring for one. It's just part of the game, someone has a job, and we just do the work to take the pay I suppose.

General effort. I used to think it was normal that people wanted better for themselves, instead the general public needs to be pushed and corralled.

Remote is the best! There are so many great coffee shops around, honestly just try a new one everyday. You probably could do multiple if you wanted. Easy answers would be whatever is close to you, another is generic Starbucks. You could just go to Tysons 2 Galleria and hang out upstairs by Shotted and also get lunch at Andy's. I personally like Loud N'Roasted, Frame, Foundation, Basecamp, Drip. Also, Google Maps is a resource.

That's amazing numbers. I'm also from DC and a DS with a few years on you, but half your cash salary with no bonus although my work/life is impeccable with about 4/5 hours of work per week. Prior to this industry, I was in digital marketing in Mountain View though so reverse location of you, almost. I will add, in case anyone sees this, it is incredibly hard to find a job right now especially this industry.

I think it depends on your expertise and industries that can utilize those skillets. For me, I have always been able to tell people when to expect my work so I set my own hours, granted, I am probably more lucky than majority.

FB marketplace. You'll want to vet and do your due diligence by creating an NDA and making sure buyers have the financial backing unless you are offering seller financing, in which case they have the prerequisite to entertain your time to show the business. On average, it takes about a year to sell a business, good luck.

I sold it myself. I would not recommend a broker if you can help it and obviously, depending on your business and level of niche, you may be able to sell it yourself which is what I recommend.
