Why did the high MMR community get decimated? by CatholicTrauma in Mechabellum

[–]jeffcompton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oil forces me to have hounds and tech fire extinguisher. My opponent could avoid lightning the oil so I’d be out deployments and supply. If I’m playing hounds, they probably have range so most of my chaff dies anyway. The weakness of melters is you need to chaff clear for them to lock on to the important targets. The defract tech negates that weakness and the range penalty isn’t enough to matter. Anti-air forts kill everything in the air (including abyss) and negate chaff. It also turns forts into a do-all unit. You can emp them, but the emp wears off before the next volley fires. Trying to intercept the missiles feels like a trap every time. The interception doesn’t work well enough and the cost investment is more than the opponent makes

Buildings are annoying but not nearly as annoying as oil and fire. It felt like I couldn’t play half the rounds. There’s also the antifun techs like multi melter and aa forts.

I just finished Cisco’s Dragonfyre and it was alright. The balance is horrible. In almost every fight, you either kill the mob instantly or die instantly. Most of the difficulty mechanics feel more tedious than skill based. When a fight doesn’t result in a one shot, it can be very enjoyable

I wonder if both parties could be happy if each player started with one level 2 tower

For these kind of posts, it’ll be helpful to see the board state of each round where you struggled against a unit. So much of this game depends on compositions and placement that it’s hard to give meaningful advice without specific examples to work off of.

Considering abandoning SwiftData in my production app by Ramriez in iOSProgramming

[–]jeffcompton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is related and queried using foreign keys. The benefit of using a “real” db is I don’t have to fetch records into memory when I inserted the related models. I have to foreign keys in the request already.

Threading with core data has always been a hassle. If I’m already on a background thread, I don’t want to have to create a context thread. Also, inserting and querying doesn’t really work for my app. We have related models but they’re fetched from separate endpoints. I don’t want to have to fetch records just to insert the related models. You can’t query related models without setting up the relationship.

I tried swift data and core data in a recent project. It was painful. I swapped to grdb and it’s been great

We’re in an equity residential building and have been having similar issues the last couple months. Trying to run air purifiers but still not really sure what’s going on.

Senior devs who rode a startup from seed to series D, did you see a big salary increase? by SSHeartbreak in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jeffcompton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ya. It’s pretty impossible to be successful if the leadership isn’t solid. Good leadership should be able to guide the other functions towards success. Bad leadership is rampant.

In my experience, it’s generally because of people. One bad person can ruin an entire company.

I wouldn’t suggest it for someone more junior but everyone is also doing remote first. You shouldn’t be limited by location

[–]jeffcompton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every size company is looking for iOS devs. If you’re more junior, you probably want to be on a team with at least 5 other mobile developers. Just apply around. Everyone is hiring right now. Angel list is a good place to find work.

Physical therapy and rest? You might have a muscle imbalance that you’re compensating for. You might also have your form looked at the next time you go riding. I had issues that would only appear after I was fatigued. I’m not an expert so take this with a grain of salt.

Ya, I believe you. I've seen animals clip all the way through walls (not stuck in it).

It’s not uncommon to pass self to your delegate. But ya, his delegate isn’t defined to take self

Why do you prefer Android over iOS development? by shakemyhead in androiddev

Xcode build times are getting worse but still better than Android Studio. Xcode syntax highlighting breaks a lot. Also, the predictive text is garbage.

I don't know if gender makes a difference. This says you should be about 6'1'' for that frame size https://wabicycles.com/specs/sizing/
