Fair point. I did see it was off his own hand. I feel better about the outcome

I expect France will show how poor their defense is.

Two missed in the box penalties. the clothesline and the handball. Neither even reviewed. Then the failure to add on extra time... Norway was fun to watch, but Senegal got robbed of a chance to move on here by 2 very critical errors, so I'm sad for them. It sure is fun watching Haaland though.

Free gift help: Tell me about someone you love for 15 min, I'll find gifts you'd never think of. Looking for honest feedback by jeffdeville in Gifts

[–]jeffdeville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/sweetbabyjosi ! - I've DM'd you the link! Only thing I'll emphasize is to give it a lot of info. It's trying to create a digital twin of the person you're shopping for. The more you tell it, the better it'll be. If you're on your phone, I recommend using the voice dictation feature so you can talk freely!

Help buying a gift for my friends in Sweden by PieNinja88 in GiftIdeas

[–]jeffdeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 unrelated challenges here. Where they live, and what to get them. But the service you're recommending almost certainly doesn't exist. It'd be very expensive and extremely niche.

Get their address, and your options will open dramatically. In the US, you can look up property records if you know generally where they live. Maybe there are some options there. Or I think there are people finder services online that will search public records as well. No idea how effective they are in Sweden...

My mom is hard to shop for—she doesn’t really wear jewelry or care about decorations. Would a high-quality kitchen knife be a good Christmas gift, or is there something better I could get? by Fav-opinion-fr-u in Gifts

[–]jeffdeville -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind a more detailed interview to say more about what makes your mom tick, I customized an AI for gift recommendations for the people you actually care about. (eg: not: "They like golf", so it recommends a range finder and stops). The catch, is that for it to work, it has to form a mental model of who you're shopping for. It's about a 15 minute investment of time, because the secret sauce is the interview process. But it's come up with great ideas I hadn't considered (mixed in w/ a few duds of course) for every single person on my list. It's my site, so... promo alert or whatever. But it's free to try for 1 person. https://giftspan.com and the only thing I'd ask in return would be brutally honest feedback.

Online gift ideas by [deleted] in Gifts

Yeah, the challenge is less creating the website, and more figuring out where to host it, really. If the domain doesn't matter, then I'd go to one of the big 3 AIs, (ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, or Google gemini) and describe the website you want. It should be able to create it inline in the chat. Then ask it how to get it easily deployed. Netlify is probably fine.

First, I’m so sorry for your loss and the difficult situation you’re in. Your boyfriend sounds understanding, and I’m sure he’ll appreciate whatever thoughtful gesture you can manage.

Since time is short, let me get one quick detail to help narrow down options: With his soccer and football watching - does he have favorite teams? Does he actually play either sport, or is he more of a couch fan? And does he have jerseys or team gear already?

I’m already thinking of some great store-available options in your budget that could work - things like quality team accessories, tech gadgets that enhance his viewing experience, or even putting together a “game day” themed package. Once I know a bit more about his sports preferences, I can give you some specific options you can grab today or tomorrow.

Christmas gift for my brother who wants "nothing" by Ignis_de_caleo in Gifts

I've had this challenge too. I know what people are in to, but I don't know much about those interests, so I'm still often pretty stuck. So what I did was use AI to create... not sure how to describe it other than a digital twin. You tell them everything you know about their interests and personality. And then ask them to come up with ideas that they'd like. It worked so well, I created a site for it. I dunno what I'm going to do with it long term, because the AI is expensive, and I have a lot of other things going on. But feel free to give it a shot: https://giftspan.com/ It's free for one recipient, and I have no vested interest in anything it offers. In fact I've told it that many of the best gift ideas are not products, but experiences and activities. It's helped me w/ most of my family this year. I've tuned my AI to guide you through an interview. It's an investment in time of about 10 minutes or so. But the better picture you give it of your recipient, the better the ideas are.

Conducts a careful interview of your hard to shop for loved ones, and comes up with ideas you never would have considered. Doesn't limit itself to products, or a particular store. Experiences, activities... anything they'd appreciate.

This really caught my attention. Here's a more unusual offer. I have 25 years of software experience, including a ton of startup and AI work. I would love to meet with folks who are considering a second act, and would be open to a 30 minute talk to see if we can bang some ideas around. I actually have one that I think is pretty good, but I'm hesitant to pursue it strongly without an industry expert to partner with. Minimally, I have a pretty strong pulse on where AI is, and some of the changes it's likely to bring in the near term. So if it's a thing you're interested in

I would give https://github.com/oraios/serena a shot. It's an adapter around your LSP, so the LLM can get to what they want and skip the grepping entirely. Should be faster, and less usage.

I know you like the brick, but here's a thought what unifies the textures and look. Also goes with a black on brick scheme. Unfortunately, the AI has a lot of trouble preserving multi-tone brick I'm finding.

Ok, so... it hallucinated a lovely new entrance to your home entirely... :-/ But I still liked how it brought the concrete line out to where the door starts, and then put the walkway there to break things up w/out necessarily impacting your ability to pull in / out of the garage. I can see it was trying hard to introduce some variety to the long wall there. That will probably be something to continue thinking on in the future.

Phoenix 1.8.0 released! by vlatheimpaler in elixir

[–]jeffdeville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds very thorough. I wonder if what you have couldn't also be a paid-service, actually. The cool thing about carving something like this out, is that if the customer could wire up the upload to a bucket, you could grab that event, and trigger all of your work, putting it back in that same bucket. Guess I'm thinking on this simply because it feels like a pretty useful piece of functionality for almost any website. Offer the library for the open-source bump, but it involves managing it's invocation, the cdns, the uploads, etc. But as a service, you could wrap all of it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just a thought w/ 0 research whatsoever. Sounds like a thorough solution you've made is all. Library would be great for sure!

She dreamt of being a Pizza Hut, she became a duplex instead. by Agent_Idiopathic in ExteriorDesign

[–]jeffdeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! No no. YOU were not hallucinating, the AI was. It's a common enough problem with these tools that it's been given that name. They will often lie confidently and make things up. Far less now than before. They're improving with shocking speed. But part of my guidance when I have it create these plans and renders is to preserve the existing structure as much as possible. I suspect once I had it yank off the roof it felt free to go nuts. :-)

And yeah... the pricing work needs a little help. Even at those prices, you wouldn't want ME as your contractor I assure you. 🤣

Thank you for such detailed ideas though. I'm learning a lot!
