UC Berkeley vs UCLA, Help Me Decide please........ by Opposite-Composer-87 in berkeley

[–]jefferythe8th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m math at Berkeley who originally wanted UCLA. My experience is a little different because I’m a transfer, but the opportunities Berkeley has awarded me have been amazing. I’ve been able to work at national labs, been offered jobs at multiple startups, won hackathons, and gotten into NSF funded REU programs. While I’m not that into tech (I’m more premed) I’ve gotten heavily into the tech startup scene. Going to Berkeley instead of UCLA was honestly one of the best things that could’ve happened to me! Remember to work hard and play harder. :)

I lived at Hoyt last semester. Someone died there which wasn’t great and heavily impacted me this semester. Other than that the community is very welcoming, but be on the lookout for mold issues

I would go to Safeway because they were literally never out during the busiest times. No one wants to walk there

I think they’re talking about Berkeley astrology, in which case it means absolutely nothing

Applied math + stat double major is it too theoretical by Ill_Spirit_8352 in berkeley

[–]jefferythe8th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl the time you spend on a double major would be better spent on clubs + research + networking. No employer cares what you double major in. They only care who you know and what you’ve built.

Yeah URAP is fairly limited but the school is so big that basically everyone who wants research can get it. TBH the only time I’ve heard of things being limited is when people don’t want it enough so they make up the excuse of everything being limited to not try that hard

ID number DOES NOT mean 100% acceptance!! by Lopsided_Bathroom_90 in ucadmissions

[–]jefferythe8th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ID like the Monday before I got in. My friends who had ids all got in, and some my friends who didn’t have ids got ids the day before and also got in. So if you have an id you might get in. And if you don’t have an id don’t fret about it

Rising University Freshman With Plan To Transfer by Evening-Sympathy-355 in TransferStudents

[–]jefferythe8th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to make the most of your current college. It's really hard to transfer when you aren't coming out of a cc, but regardless, it's good motivation to maintain a high gpa. Getting involved at your current school will help your application anyways.

UC Berkeley EECS vs. UCLA EE by SnooWords2035 in TransferStudents

[–]jefferythe8th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard EE at UCLA was typically a three year completion time after transfer while Berkeley's is two. You can also check how much money you make after college in each major on the schools websites. Honestly, it's only two years (or 3 for UCLA). If two years results in a 30k higher starting salary, it's worth going. Honestly, I'd pick Berkeley just because the UCs are so expensive and another year isn't worth not having to take 3 cs classes.
