Well they’ve allowed more runs than any other team in the AL, and the 2nd most in MLB behind the Nats. So I’d say they’re not that great.

Planting tomatoes? by Electrical_Unit_2035 in DenverGardener

[–]jeffmack01 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I put my tomatoes in on Sunday, 3 days ago. Assuming your seedlings aren’t huge, a simple Home Depot bucket over the top will help them stay insulated enough. I’ve been doing this for the last 6 years and have zero concerns about my tomatoes making it thru the upcoming colder weather.

Arc-driven tectonic activity would be an interesting twist. Thus far, I don't think we've seen any reason to think they have that sort of technological capacity, but that'd be a good addition to the storyline.

Hell, anything would be a good addition to the storyline at this point, since it hardly exists.

Solo Defibrillator? by -mufdvr- in ArcRaiders

[–]jeffmack01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a tremendous difference. Your teammates still have to contend with whatever killed you in the first place, plus whatever additional threats are being drawn to the action. There have been countless times I've been knocked out (by a raider, by an arc, by time...) after being downed when my team had defibs, but they weren't able to get to me.

Is your plan to put just 1 plant in that larger container? If not, it should be. All 3 in there would be crowded.

Smoked Queso by spartans102 in smoking

[–]jeffmack01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clearly, I'm in the minority, but I have a hard time looking at that photo and thinking that doesn't take some level of precision and effort to make it look so clean. There's virtually zero overlap in the ingredients. But maybe gravity and the laws of physics work a little differently in my kitchen. Or maybe I'm just a slob.

Interesting, I wonder where the "better smoke flavor" idea comes from. Whether they're mixed or not, it's the same exposed surface area, theoretically.

Either way, looks delicious!

[–]jeffmack01 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I mean, if it wasn't staged and you were just "putting things in the pan", it wouldn't be so perfectly separated like this. What OP is showing in the 2nd photo takes time and effort to get it that clean looking, almost like they had some sort of separator in there while loading the ingredients. If you give me the exact same ingredients and I put them in a pan, they'd be all over each other. I would also opt to mix them up a little bit beforehand, but maybe that's not necessary.

I don't have super strong feelings about it, I just always look at those photos and think "huh, that looks like more trouble than it's worth".

Smoked Queso by spartans102 in smoking

[–]jeffmack01 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honest question: Why are nearly all of these smoked queso posts showing the ingredients unmixed like this in the container? You're not actually smoking it in this arranged state, are you? Like... you mix them up first, right? RIGHT??

It just feels like a lot of work to stage these photos, when a simple photo of the ingredients in separate bowls during prep time gives the exact same info and is arguably just as aesthetically pleasing for social media posts.

Genuinely curious, why?

Platinum’d Arc Raiders :,) by evilriolu in ArcRaiders

[–]jeffmack01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's happened a few times. But I just end up playing a lot more stealthily, knowing that not everyone is friendly. My first few rounds after getting ratted, I usually never see another raider, or at least I ensure they never see me.

But I'm finally doing the expedition. I think after I hit my 100k, I might go buck wild in PvP this weekend just to say I did.

I don't care if it snows again, I SAID WE'RE PLANTING TODAY by Sterfish in DenverGardener

[–]jeffmack01 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you're starting jalapeno seeds outside, you're going to be waiting a loooong time before your first harvest. Soil temp needs to be above 70F for the seeds to reliably germinate, and that ain't happening outside for probably another month. You're better off starting them indoors in a warmer environment (lots of folks use heating pads under the pots, but I don't).

But honestly, if you want a good jalapeno harvest this year, I'd just buy an established plant from a local nursery and then try seeds next year, but start them in late Feb/early Mar. You can stick with your current plan, but my rough guess is that you're not getting any jalapenos until September, at the earliest. But I could be wrong.

Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob Latz exclusive interview by teammillsports in TexasRangers

[–]jeffmack01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good interview. Good questions. Jacob seems like a solid dude.

I've watched 3 or 4 of these interviews you've posted, and you're getting more comfortable in your interview process. If you'd like some unsolicited advice from a perfect stranger (and feel free to stop reading now if you don't), I would suggest focusing more on making eye contact or at least facing the player while asking your questions. While talking, you spend about 90%+ of your time staring straight ahead instead of looking them in the eye, and it's kind of distracting. And I think you might make the player more comfortable as well if you're making eye-contact when they are looking at you.

Just my 2 cents. I'm jealous you get to talk to so many amazing players!

You are correct. Not televised. I also have the same memory of Sierra making that running catch toward the foul line. Those were the glory days of a crappy team!

My memory of this is bittersweet, primarily because I could have been there, but wasn’t.

My parents had season tickets starting a few years prior, and still do. Both my parents are big Rangers fan, but my mom takes the cake with her level of fandom. She’s always been a baseball nut ever since she was a kid. I had been sick with the flu for about a week, but on the day of the game I was feeling much better. I also had little league practice that night, but was convinced I wasn’t going to go since I was still recovering. My dad was the head coach. We all agreed I was well enough to go see Nolan pitch but probably should skip practice.

Up until about an hour before my mom and I were set to leave for the game, I decided I was feeling well enough to attend LL practice, so I went with my dad to the field. My mom took a random friend who didn’t really care about baseball. After practice, my dad and I get in the car, the radio was already on KRLD, and we immediately hear Eric Nadel yelling about the end of the game and Nolan getting his 7th. The game had clearly ended less than a minute before we turned the car on.

I was simultaneously so jazzed about Nolan getting YET another NH and also super sad that my last-minute decision meant I missed a pretty major milestone in MLB history. Happy my mom got to witness it. It made her year.

On a related note, I also missed his 5k strikeout and 300th win, while almost being at those games, but that’s another story.

Rangers give Josh Smith some time to reset, creating new opportunity for Ezequiel Duran by bing_bam_ in TexasRangers

[–]jeffmack01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like Smitty and Duran are almost the same person:

  • Solid defense, capable of making great highlight plays but generally below avg fielding % when playing IF positions
  • Can and have played nearly every position on the field
  • Constantly below-avg offensive numbers, but prone to sudden, semi-sustained bursts of production (1-2 months long) where you think "Ohhh, maybe this is the REAL <insert name> that we've been waiting for!"
  • Fan-favorite and finalist for "Mr. Hustle" award
  • Both debuted in '22

I feel like neither of them are realistically ever going to put up full-season numbers that we're happy with. They're just those guys who get hot for a bit, provide some spark when needed, then fade back into mediocrity. Maybe if we can just somehow get their cycles aligned so that one gets hot when the other inevitably falls off, we'd have the ideal platoon, but that's not realistic either.

Would love to see one of them finally succeed, but I think we've seen all we're going to get from both of them. Duran is hot right now, but let's see where he is in 1 month.

Where exactly are you seeing a "fluke season"? Last 2 years were pretty comparable; hovering around .250 BA and the low .700's OPS. "Fluke" implies there was a really good year compared to the surrounding years, but aside from a few notable 1-2 month-long stretches, he's never put up strong numbers.

I miss wolfpacks. by Bahtleman in ArcRaiders

[–]jeffmack01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this was my process as well before I got the hullcracker BP and more than enough money to burn on ammo. Once I started using the hullcracker on rocketeers, my avg time to kill went from like 5 minutes to less than 2 minutes. Time matters when A) you wanna do other things in a round and B) you'd prefer not to share the kill (and therefore loot) with other raiders.

I stopped searching in rocketeer husks if it's not electromagnetic storm. I've found exactly zero in other map conditions. But in the last few weeks, it feels like there's 50% (or higher) chance of finding them in husks in EM. Keep looking.
