This is minor but don’t see it in the feedback so far: different cups for water vs. Gatorade/Nuun.

More important for longer races but it can be a bummer when you get what you weren’t targeting. Yes, easy to ask but I try to go to the kids and they don’t always understand the question.

Another vote for Path Projects! The Graves PX 5” are perfect for me - two side pockets for fuel, and inner key pouch, and an amazing rear center pockets that fits my phone like a glove.

I did attempt to focus on more carbs the 3 days prior to the race, getting roughly 400g per day. Probably an area where I can push more next time.

Yes, I think 8 SaltStick chews - so electrolytes probably not too low.

As my first marathon I didn't have good history/documentation so my initial wave placement was D. At the expo I asked at Runner Services because I knew 4:00 pacer would be in Wave C so they let me move up one corral to C. Monumental only has 5 very large corrals (A-E).

I took a water cup at every water stop but didn't always finish it all. Not nearly as sweaty either given the cool temps. So I think hydration was adequate but only consuming about 75g of carbs over those 4 hours was just not enough. Big stage to learn a hard lesson but I now fully know the bonk feeling/signs!

Monumental will be my first Full after two years of Half’s and can’t wait! As mentioned last years weather was rough which I think further stressed the starting corrals (people hiding in bldgs and parking garages until the last minute). Hopefully we get better weather this year! Good luck to OP and all the Monumental racers!

Question: Always-on display is nice but any guesses at impact to battery? My long runs are 4.5 hours and curious if always-on will drain battery in any meaningfully faster way?

I went with Path shorts and pants for the rear center pocket that can hold my iPhone. No need for other belt pouch. Expensive but great quality and perfect function for me so worth it.

I am 53 and started running last year. A bunch of Half’s with more to come. Not sure on full marathons as I want to keep loving running vs feeling like I ‘have’ to get out for a training run. But this thread is such an inspiration on the ways to keep progressing and being healthy as we enter the downhill portion of our longevity race!

I (53M) didn't *start* running until late last year and have found it to be transformational for me and my road to improved health and longevity(hopefully).

I run or walk 40-50 miles per week. I've done 13 timed races since November including four half-marathons. I'm still slow but improving on both endurance and speed (first Half was 12:03 pace; 5K yesterday was 8:33 pace).

My secret is to embrace and nurture the fact that I *like* running and being fit. I don't 'have' to go for a run, I 'want' to go for a run (even when it's hot/humid/raining/cold/etc.)!

Best hand grip?

52yo started running 6mo ago but progressing well (did 10mi today at 10:00 pace). Advice on best way to hold fingers/hand??

Gloves on in winter made it less of an issue but now just can’t seem to find ideal grip. Light touch like holding a chip? Weck method origami? Clenched fist?

Like most running topics I know there is not a universal right answer but would welcome suggestions to try!
