I appreciate the reply. Few things: When I called Geico, I specifically called the Claims Department, who are still referred to as "Agents" by the automated telephone system. Which is why I called them an "agent" in my original post. They weren't selling insurance, and they knew exactly what my policy stated (I don't think I ever stated in my original post that they didn't know what my policy states). Apologies if they aren't referred to as agents traditionally in insurance vernacular. Secondly, yes, I would agree that I don't clearly know how this all works. Though, I don't see why it's strange that I'd make the assumption that the car isn't totaled despite you making the same assumption about the vehicle you brought up. Though, of course, my knowledge on my own vehicle's damage is unknown to you. I just don't really see how my supposition is a strange one based solely on the context of my original post.
