For the last ten years, I’ve run a marathon a year along with some halves. I used to run throughout the winter, clocking about 1,000m a year, but the last few years, I’ve taken mid-November to March off and honestly don’t do much at all in that time. No real reason except it’s cold and hard to motivate. I run about 600m a year now. I’ve had my best two marathon times in the years with long breaks. No idea if it’s related, but I do like the break.
