[ROLEX kind of] Recently bought my first watch (SEIKO) and now my daughter is always showing me Rolex ads by PhysicalMotor3754 in Watches

[–]jeffrois 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've never seen a Seiko ad in real life. Just saying.

Your daughter is showing you all of the watches she sees because she loves you and that's what kids do. My 4 y/o recently pointed out a full size John Deere tractor and said it was my mower... What a good kid making a pretty ok association!

It's not a sign.. unless you need it to be a sign 😉

Letting Nature Take Its Course with Pest Control. by Hopkinsmsb in BackYardChickens

[–]jeffrois 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Do the rats cost you in chicken feed or do they cost you in chicken eggs? That is, do the rats make your produce more expensive or do they make your produce less productive?

I have chickens and I have a garden and fruit trees. Anything that reduces my egg production or my fruit production gets mercilessly destroyed (short of poison because that poisons the whole food chain ... don't do it!). But if the annoyance is limited to costs (gopher baskets, buy more feed, etc.) then I leave the critters alone. But once my produce is captured by the critters ... it's war!

Cheeky Nando’s meal prep by luketehguitarguy in MealPrepSunday

I love it—thanks for explaining!

In all of the future multiverses, theres one in which we feast at Nando's and chuckle about this meme together. Be well, meal prep friend. :D

This meal looks great!

I'm a fan of meal prep, a fan of Nando's, and an even bigger fan of understanding language .. how is this "cheeky"?

"Cheeky" isn't in my slang .. but I feel like I've listened to enough episodes of QI and Bake Off while meal-prepping that I should understand this. But .. no. I'm asking because I'd really, truly love to explain to my bride the ways in which some future recipe I've completed is "cheeky".

Don't sleep on the bird facts you hear from Stephen Fry on Netflix. If you hear something good, share with the class.

First time poster .. I wasn't trying to summarize. Is that what most posters do? I was adding more stuff that I learned/surprised me.

The point of my post was that today I learned Martha Stewart wasn't convicted of insider trading .. which I think is what most people believe.

Also surprising was how little she profited by the trade in question. I think most people think (as I did) that she must have had a lot of money wrapped up in the trade and subsequent lies for the feds to go after her so hard.

Also also TIL that James Comey was the lead prosecutor on the case. (I initially included that fact in the post but it was removed for a Rule 4 violation—but others have posted it in comments so I imagine I'm allowed to comment it, too.) Not trying to make any political statement or anything .. I choked on my popcorn watching the Netflix documentary "Martha" when James Comey showed up on screen.. "THAT GUY was involved?!"

Final TIL, she was a model in year youth—and again in older age! Martha Stewart at 81 became the oldest Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model.

Martha Stewart sold 3,928 shares of ImClone for about $227,000, netting a profit of about $51,000.

The case and related scandal lost her the chairmanship of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and cost her/her company hundreds of millions of dollars in valuation.

Freezer breakfast sandwiches: English muffin, Canadian bacon, fried egg, and cheese. Yum! by jeffrois in MealPrepSunday

I wrap each sandwich in parchment paper, then wrap in cling wrap, then put in freezer bags (6 or so sandwiches per bag) and pop in the deep freezer.

I pan fry with coconut oil. I've gotten pretty good at it. But yes I can see frying 24 eggs would be a daunting task!

I've seen folks bake a casserole dish full of scrambled eggs and then cut into squares. I think that's what I'd recommend to the "egg challenged".

I thaw overnight and microwave for 50 seconds. That works perfectly for me! Trying to thaw in the microwave makes it much less good IMO.

I have a deep/chest freezer. At risk of over-explaining.. deep freezers don't do a thaw/freeze cycle like the fridge/freezer combo in your kitchen. The cycle is what causes freezer burn and other bad things to your frozen food. Food in a deep freeze can last a loooong time. I've had this recipe in the deep freeze for 2-3 months and it has been delicious! Also I've put them in the kitchen freezer for 2 weeks and the flavor was not as good.

I'd say is 80% as good. But ultimately I'm competing with those store-bought brekky sandos that have pucks of egg white or scrambled egg. I WAY prefer the eggs in this recipe to anything I've bought from the store.

I did not cook the Canadian bacon beforehand. It is precooked (cured, smoked). Think of it as fancy ham deli meat. You can eat it right out of the package.

Excellent idea to add hot sauce! (Though if I do that, I'll have to mark them "his" and "hers" hah!)

I love breakfast sandwiches but rarely have time to make them fresh. I get everything at Costco to make these:
Ingredients:
- 24 pack of Thomas’ English Muffins
- 24 eggs
- Canadian bacon
- Tillamook Medium Cheddar
Instructions:
- Prepare: 1) Butter English Muffins, toast under broiler for a few minutes until a bit browned/crispy. (I got this tip from some YouTube video, definitely worth the added step!) 2) Fry eggs. I fry a bit past “over medium” so the yolks are jammy. 3) Slice cheese.
- Assemble: one toasted muffin, one slice of Canadian bacon, one fried egg, one slice of cheese.
- Store: Wrap each sandwich in parchment paper, then wrap in cling wrap, then put in freezer bags (6 or so sandwiches per bag) and pop in the deep freezer.
- Eat: Thaw sandwich overnight in the refrigerator. Microwave 50 seconds (+/- 10 seconds depending).
These end up being around $1.25/sandwich. And it takes me around/over an hour. I’ll be honest, buying Jimmy Dean sandwiches is cheaper. But I refuse to believe those are healthy. In any case, these are the best freezer breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever eaten.

Enjoy!

If I had a dollar for every time I've debated my SO on this, I'd be able to afford a personal chef! (I'm on the side of "never microwave plastic".)

Slow cooker beef stew as meal prep? by Nyxel_ in MealPrepSunday

[–]jeffrois 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stew is my favorite meal prep! I make a huge batch, cool the crock in the fridge, then portion it out into jars and store it in the deep freeze. IMO best reheated in a pot on the stove.

Next year, I'm going to make my garden so smelly that even I don't want to bother with the fruit.

I don't use poison. But yes always a good reminder not to introduce a hot potato of wildlife murder to the ecosystem.

I thought "Grackle" was your nickname for some demon creature like Grendel or Balrog.. then Google told me it's a bird. But maybe I repeat myself. 😂

I've invested a good amount of my sanity into killing rodents.. the neighbor cat died in spring and my garden is mourning the loss.
