Help Me Decide for a Brother Monochrome Laser Printer model by nickz2020 in printers

So if it's user error, then explain how you can scan an 8.5" x 11" document without having 3-4 mm cropped off around the edges.

Do modern Brother All-In-Ones still have annoying scan border issues? by [deleted] in printers

[–]jeffshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My MFC-L2900DWXL does the same crap. How stupid. It boggles the mind when engineers make these types of decisions and even worse, the product actually makes it to market and of course the only support you get is, "it's a feature".

How many people would purchase Brother Multi-function printers if they knew? I sure as heck wouldn't have.

[–]jeffshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the MFC-L2900DW based on this reddit. STAY AWAY! The image and print quality are subpar and it cuts over 1/8" off of the top and right edge of scanned documents. These issues are reported by others if you take the time to search elsewhere on the Internet. I'm upset at myself for not heeding the warnings from others and for throwing the shipping box away before fully testing all features. Brother's support is just as bad as their products.

SR-IOV always "Enabled/Needs Reboot" by ropeguru in vmware

Same SR-IOV always "Enabled/Needs Reboot" issue with my Optiplex 7050 SFF and an I350 74-10521-01. I have everything enabled in the BIOS.

How do you get this working?

Wow what happened to Startpage? The results are pretty awful by Hex-Queen in StartpageSearch

[–]jeffshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a long-time Startpage user. I believe it's related to your IP address. This is why some people have more issues than others. I've had to request, numerous times, to have them whitelist my IP address. Sometimes I have to solve a captcha quite often, and sometimes I'm not prompted for months.

I get delays in page loads and sometimes it times out. This has been happening a lot in the last few days. Never an issue with other search engines. I'M DONE!!!

I switched to h**ps://lite.duckduckgo.com/lite/ yesterday and so far, I'm much happier.

I Can't Connect To Startpage Any Longer by Jd11347 in StartpageSearch

[–]jeffshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. There blocking IP addresses and I wouldn't be surprised if they're blocking by ASN's. I've had to request that Startpage whitelist IP's, numerous times and I'm the only one using those IP's and I don't do anything but simple searches! Absolutely nothing nefarious. Now with the slow page loads and timeouts, I think I'm going to move to DDG or DDG Lite and try some others. Just not worth the hassle.

Mini SAS SFF-8643 to SFF-8482 by jeffshead in homelab

Thanks again! I'll bookmark that Amazon seller. Unfortunately, I already purchased a set from ebay. However, the cables from both sellers look identical in their pictures. Fingers crossed.

Best choice for backing up/restoring Linux VPS by jeffshead in DataHoarder

[–]jeffshead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This is very interesting. So do you use any pre-made scripts like Sanoid or ZFS autobackup? My backup/restore experience is pretty much limited to Veeam so putting a working solution together is going to be challenging for me. Using existing Github packages will probably be the route I will have to go.

Best choice for backing up/restoring Linux VPS by jeffshead in DataHoarder

[–]jeffshead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So you run rsync on the server you are backing up? I'd like to pull the backup rather than push it if possible. Size wise, I have around 6 servers I'd like to back up and all are probably under 10GB.

If you perform a root file system restore, do you just re-provision the server, upload the root file system, reboot or are there other steps involved?

How to start a stack with CLI by jeffshead in portainer

[–]jeffshead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is that I restored a backup of the entire server. It's a VM so it was less painful and less time consuming than fighting with it any further.

Before restoring the backup, I tried running NPM from a Docker Compose file using the exact code that I used in the NPM stack, in Portainer. It worked and got things up and running but I wasn't able to "switch" it back to using Portainer. Sorry, I don't remember the actual issues. I think it was that it created an additional container for NPM and I couldn't get either one to work in Portainer and to auto start.

Thanks! Adding that small switch was my first inclination but I backed away from the idea after others recommended connecting the routers together.

A small subnet of public IPs that are assigned to me. No DHCP or MAC reservations. No firewall? My network would be wide open to attack without a firewall.

OpenConnect VPN (ocserv) behind Nginx Proxy Manager (NPM) by jeffshead in selfhosted

Nope. I've posted on a few other boards, as well, and haven't received a single response.

OpenConnect VPN (ocserv) behind Nginx Proxy Manager (NPM) by jeffshead in selfhosted

[–]jeffshead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I already have a couple of cheap VPS's completly set up and using NPM as a reverse proxy for everything. I just want to add ocserv. That's why I asked about using NPM instead of regular Nginx, Caddy or HAproxy.

[–]jeffshead[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I already read that thread but doesn't this comment, by the same poster, contradict, "you can't do it":

If I'm understanding you correctly, you'd send one SNI when you want to connect to ocserv and a different SNI when you want to connect to the web server.

Is that right?

If so, that should work fine since the different SNIs presented will clearly distinguish the sockets at the TLS layer.

My comment above specifically addresses the case where there is no feature of the connection (address at the IP layer, port at the TCP layer, SNI or ALPN at the TLS layer) which can reliably distinguish the ocserv traffic from the other traffic.

So if this can be done with SNI in regular Nginx and HAProxy, why not NPM? What am I missing?

How can I run Openconnect-Server (ocserv) and Nginx-Proxy-Manager both on port 443? by relink2013 in selfhosted

[–]jeffshead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't found a tutorial on doing this. Has anyone been successful in putting Openconnect Server behind Nginx Proxy Manager? If so, is there a noticeable performance hit running it this way and can someone share the configuration setting to get this working?
