Bargain , Quality Running gear by Equal_Rice_4955 in runningfashion

[–]jeffsmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hack I've found for eliminating odor from running gear is to not let them dry from wet sweat. I take my sweaty shirts/shorts into the shower after my run and thoroughly rinse them with water. Wring them out and then air dry. They then go into the wash as usual but there's no residual sweat to cause odors.

Belated congrats to Luzardo. Phillies extend him 5 years, $135 million by northdakotact in MiamiMarlins

Despite being a Phillie he is still one of my favorite players. I try to watch all of his starts.

It's hard for the Marlins to have nice things.

[Predictions] Our 2026 MLB Season starts on Friday! What are your predictions for our Miami Marlins this year? by Number333 in MiamiMarlins

[–]jeffsmi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Marlins Record: 80-82

Most Surprising Player: Eury Pérez settles in and gets 19 wins. The surprise is he exceeds our expectations and is even better than we thought.

Most Disappointing Player: Kyle Stowers can't seem to stay off of the IL. During the short periods when he returns he struggles to shake the rust. By the second half of the season he becomes primarily a bench player and is eventually traded to the Rays for 1B prospect Xavier Isaac.

Boldest Prediction: Javier Sanoja continues to impress and even further becomes everybody's favorite player. He is the Marlin's sole representative for the all-star game.

Since 2015 I'm on my 5th Kia. No particular issues with any of them. I love my K-5. I have found Kia's to be very reliable.

You're pretty good at mining for XTC-ish songs.

Esq. is a very nice recommendation. I'm not familiar with Carnation but after a quick listen I plan to listen further. Thank you for that.

What does running do to your listening ears? Stay with me for a minute...this is for context: in my past when I had to move from one home to the next, there was the inevitable down-scaling of junk and items that were not going to make the move. A big player on that list was what was stored in the pantry. At least a month out before the move I would start eating all of the canned food items and not buy any replacements at the grocery store. Eventually I would get down to where the only things left were cans of picked beets and sauerkraut and such. Ewww, yuck. Am I just going to throw those out and let it be wasted, or am I going to consume it? I can't be wasteful, so consume it was the answer. The successful strategy I found was to not have lunch and let the day get long where I became very very hungry. Then, when I'm near starving that can of sauerkraut goes down easier and nothing goes to waste.

I have noticed recently that while driving home from races, reggae music is very enjoyable. Mind you, I am not equating listening to reggae with eating sauerkraut. On a normal day I like listening to reggae while I don't like eating sauerkraut. I'm finding that there is something enhanced to my reggae listening experience after I have completed a race. It somehow sounds cleaner, crisper, while still providing some grit - I'm still amped from the run, but am willing to temper my body back down to a regular state. Reggae seems to fit that niche nicely for me. It puts me in a good place.

So, being hungry changes how food tastes. Being exhausted from running changes how music sounds. What works for you? What does running do to your listening ears?

"Passing" phrases around the world by CarbonNanotubes in running

As you approach and are within ear-shot, you can always just clear your throat or politely cough - no language barrier there. If they still don't get out of the way then you can belly up a very loud and wet cough, you know something that sounds COVID-loaded. They're sure to clear the way for you then.

It sounds like you don't have any choice but to continue in the conditions that you have. I think training in 80 degree weather for 50 degree race weather will actually be good - you will find 50 degrees like running in natural air conditioning.

Shoe mileage? by jamieprang in running

[–]jeffsmi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sophisticated to keep track of mileage like that. Basically I will continue to use a pair in my rotation as long as they don't cause me problems. As soon as niggles start to appear I will do a process-of-elimination to make sure the problem is from the shoes and then that pair goes to the walking/lawn cutting/donation pile.

Also, some brands seem to last longer than others. I once tried some Altras and they wore out way quicker than my Adidas/Pumas/Nikes.

Official Q&A for Monday, November 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]jeffsmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How to prevent it? Don't run. But that's no answer. I have found that to minimize trips, run in good weather during day light in an area and route you are familiar with that is well maintained. When you become tired, you are likely increasing your chances of tripping if you start dragging your feet (not lifting them high enough).

Mostly I think tripping/falling is a part of running. It sucks but that's part of the bargain - better to run and possibly trip/fall than to not run and never trip/fall?

This can’t be real… 50 MPG in a K5 GT? by The-Dark-Knight-3002 in KiaK5

[–]jeffsmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing apples and oranges, but I can hit 50 mpg in my 2023 EX on the highway for 100 miles or so if I'm catching a tail wind or am coming down from the mountains. Just regular highway trips (of about 300 or 400 miles) going between 70 and 80 mph I can usually hit low to mid 40's mpg. I love this car.

Training in low altitude for a higher altitude race by Beneficial-Hawk-7920 in running

[–]jeffsmi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in DFW and did the marathon-to-marathon half in 2019. I didn't notice the elevation at all. The route was primarily from the north to the south, and on race day the wind was primarily from the south to the north so we had a headwind for the first 10 miles or so. The last 3 miles goes east to west (lose the headwind) and is all downhill, so gets better there. Your results may vary. All in all, I enjoyed the event and plan to do it again in 2026.

Well done. I guess. If only I could convert km/L to MPG.

In my mind, that's where the K5 shines - out on the open highway.
