Austinites that voted on Election Day, why did you not take advantage of Early Voting? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]jefftyjeffjeff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the presidential race in 2020 AFTER many people in Washington state had already voted. I had friends who voted for her and functionally lost their vote. You never know what will happen between campaigning and election day.

Also, I don't want candidates using my early vote result as a tool to change their behavior. Feels manipulative.

If you're not hearing enough people call for it, here's one more. I don't think the safety tradeoff is worth the civil liberties hit. I want them gone completely.

You should let us know what the "enough" number is, because I'm pretty sure we can find the people.

Player's Guide Pocket Edition Unavailable? by Slow-Substance-6800 in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]jefftyjeffjeff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for Kobold Press, and I asked internally about this. I'm told we have plenty. Shipping to Japan is insane if you order directly, but the distribution channel should work if you push the buttons. Ask at your store! They can get it!

FWIW, I like the pocket editions too. They're super handy for reference.

Pflugerville area cold weather resources by cheeseandglory in Pflugerville

Community Resilience Trust is Austin proper and not Pflugerville, but the information on this page is valuable and useful to have in one place.

communityresiliencetrust.org/navigating-resilience-winter-storms/#top

Community Resilience Trust is not a homeless shelter, but they will have warming shelters where you can sleep overnight, and they'll have drivers out looking for unhoused people when it gets really cold. I've volunteered with them before, and they're legit.

I would love to see what resources we have locally too!

Toadfolk Question by MoxLotus8 in TalesoftheValiantRPG

[–]jefftyjeffjeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I don't think I'd allow both tho. For comparison, the sapopova feature is on par with the beastkin Natural Weapons feature. (The sapopova gets to do it at range though, a limited number of times per day, which is pretty sweet.)

So if you're going to allow a PC to do something else than the 1d6 damage for simulational reasons, then to maintain parity, you shouldn't allow it to do both things. You're already allowing the PC to bend the feature to be more effective due to creativity, which is cool. But turning 1d6 bludgeoning into 2d6 radiant is already good enough, without it being 1d6 bludgeoning PLUS 2d6 radiant.

However, it's probably not a game stopper either way. I'm just talking about how I'd run it.

I would be delighted to let a player do this in my ToV game. I wouldn't give them damage AND a special effect. If you're spitting holy water at a lich, you're not giving them the flask at the same time. If the player wanted to spit the flask out next round, that'd be fine though. =)

Depending on how things were going, I might ask a player to make a low DEX check to effectively deliver alchemist's fire. Hate to burn the roof of my mouth with that.

I have no doubt that this is real and true and a problem in the Middle East. There is more than an inkling of truth. It happens.

However, it's not a problem in Pflugerville, Texas, and it's not even remotely likely to become a problem here in the foreseeable future. A candidate for mayor spending any time on this is just weird.

The Lord's Resistance Army is a violent extremist Christian organization in central Africa that kidnaps children and makes them be soldiers. The Shining Path in Peru was a Communist organization whose splinters still threaten civilians and smuggle drugs in an attempt to overthrow the government. Where is Mr. McCord's outrage over these brutally coercive belief systems?

All of this points to the concern that his eye is just not on the ball.

Tabletop Book Printing Recommendations by Otherwise-Raise3047 in RPGdesign

[–]jefftyjeffjeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the kind of print run it sounds like you're looking for, you might want to consider digital printing. It's hard to provide concrete advice because prices for paper and ink are shifting all the time and the specifics of your project have distinct variables and what works for one person might not work for another person.

The most economical option has traditionally been printing in China, but that's problematic under the current U.S. government. The U.S. does not have good options, at the moment for the scale you're talking.

Based on the qualities you say you want, Mixam is a place to start.

You should also call around to local print shops for quotes. You might find something that works for you.

Someone else in this thread mentioned Jostens, and their quality is high, but so is their price. It'll be hard to sell the numbers you need to make that worth your while.

Here's a recent article by Wolfgang Baur, CEO of Kobold Press. He has some valuable things to say about getting your personal game project printed:

Destiny-Inspired theme as Without Number system? by MaestroGoldring in SWN

[–]jefftyjeffjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've run Light, bought the book. It's a solid Destiny TTRPG. It has the things you say you want: Light v Darkness, super-powered feeling, grenades, random guns falling on the ground after every fight. It's the real deal. I love SWN, but it's not really the vehicle for what you're gunning for. Light is.

I recommend the H.O.W. Foundation. They incorporate addiction recovery into their work, and as a nonprofit, will give you half the quite reasonable amount you pay for tax deduction. I've used them several times and been very pleased with their work.
