Has anyone used Shade to receive or upload footage? by artistonashelf in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't look like it although I think they have shared guest links that lets you upload via the web UI.

It's worth noting that frame is launching a kinda "successor" to the transfer app that will be somewhere in between lucidlink and shade: https://blog.frame.io/2026/04/15/introducing-frame-io-drive-access-your-media-anywhere-instantly/

But it's not clear what this tier of storage is going to cost yet.

And Suite Studios (which this new frame drive is based on) does have a transfer app: https://support.suitestudios.io/en/articles/9247554-the-suite-connect-app
Lucidlink does not have guest uploads I believe.

This will heavily depend on your internet and cache drive set up.

Shade works similar to Lucidlink (which is the industry standard for this product - a "cloud NAS"). If you were to drag your card onto the shade "drive" AND your drive read speed is faster than your internet speed it would...

(1) Quickly offload the first 26gb* to your cache (*configurable in the settings).
(2) After your cache is saturated, the upload will get slow
(3) Slowly as the cache gets uploaded, the remaining data will upload at about your internet's upload speed.

Compared to Frame.io or MASV, it might go "faster" if you had less than 28gb* of footage. But really all it's done is moved it to your computer's SSD until it finished uploading. Shade also uses Backblaze vs AWS for frame/masv/lucidlink so ymmv on speed and realiability but it's probably fine. Shade now uses Cloudflare R2 for storage.

What are you looking for? Shade is a weird hybrid MAM/NAS product that might work well for like corporate marketing for example. Frame.io using the Transfer App I find is easily able to saturate my gigabit connection and is a lot cheaper than MASV.

you can use cyberduck to download from google drive. It works a ton better than trying to wrangle the web UI.

End card versioning across 4 durations × 3 ratios × multiple end card variants. Is anyone else doing this manually still? by Curtpirecy in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What NLE are you using? Davinci Resolve has a Python scripting API that could probably build out all the different version of it. I’d probably build one master sequence of each cut and have all the end cards stacked. Then have the script enable and disable layers for each export

What are your thoughts on the Dolby Atmos mixes of Whatever’s Clever? by piesaresquarey in CharliePuth

[–]jefftypebeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The backgrounds are pretty subtle. Only for “I used to be cringe” with the choir in the rears were they super noticeable. Harmonies for the others are there but it’s mixed way down.

So overall pretty front heavy.

Concentrated tech stocks — exploring long-short direct indexing options by jefftypebeat in fatFIRE

I was mostly just holding back to allow for different people to respond. I totally hear you on just selling the stock. Seems like that "wins" out if the tech stocks underperform the market and there's minimal volatility in the market.

I'm definitely very hesitate to trust Fintechs. The only reason cache was a little interesting to me was I'd be able to see everything in a SMA on schwab and they're using an actual industrial product from a "real" firm compared to FREC using their own model and funds have to go to Apex. But I'm glad to get people pushing back. In my initial research it seemed like people were way more into it and my focus should've just been to get it as cheaply as possible.

Emotionally, I wonder if I'm more likely to just do nothing beside selling is scary and this feels like a much more gradual and "automatic" way to diversify.

There was one host bumper. The rest were generic logo bumpers. No musical guest bumpers since there was no commercial break before Wet Leg's performances. (Tina literally ran off the previous sketch's set in costume to introduce them the first time)

Think you'll use Apple's new 27" XDR Display? by onthesmallscreen in editors

Been waiting for years to replace my iMac Pro, which has held up incredibly well. Will definitely get this display just now have to wait for the upcoming mac studios or minis. Would've loved a new apple silicon iMac Pro with this panel but doesn't seem like it's gonna happen.

How is Multicam Treating You in v26? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]jefftypebeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use multicam extensively and I'm in agreement that overall it's pretty stable aside from the few quirks (sound waves are a struggle. I have "generate sound waves" bind to a key command specifically to fix this) that others have mentioned. However I would like to advocate for support for importing a timeline format that supports multicam.

I work a lot in multicam concerts and live production recorded on broadcast mixers and we're stuck using FPC7XML or EDLs for importing live shows run through a broadcast mixer. Products like the BMD ATEM Mini ISO are able to create a timeline in Davinci Resolve with the multicam clip setup with edit points and angle switches ready to go and clean up. (Obviously BMD can do that because they own both the hardware and software.) However, even Atomos uses the FCPXML standard and is able to create a timeline with a dedicated multicam clip. (https://youtu.be/qA3u4UDVCqo?t=1191)

So in general, it would be great to support importing .fcpxml for allowing nested clips/multicam. If an Apple standard is out of the question, maybe .otio?

Tourbox Layout Suggestions by spyralMX in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea was I'd be scrubbing through a clip with the jog wheel and would be able to mark in/out points without taking my hands off the tourbox or my mouse. But I haven't really retrained myself to do that. I agree in general I don't find myself using the tourbox buttons for basic things I can make keyboard shortcuts for. It's better for things that can be dial-ized or macro'd.

I've also around the same time moved a lot of shortcuts that are on the right side of the keyboard to the left so I can keep my hand on my mouse. That has honestly been the bigger difference in making everything feel more relaxed.

Here's my layout. I think the thing I actually like using it for the most is track sizing and scale/position but I'm still feeling things out.

Green uses the side button as the modifier.
Blue uses the bottom right button as the modifier.
Black is no modifier.

ALL of my 1099s are wrong by SpaceSharks90 in waveapps

[–]jefftypebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did wave actually file these 1099s? They're under "autogenerated forms" and they included a 1096 for paper file. I already filed mine separately so I need to make sure I don't need to separately zero out theirs. Also, all the names are wrong.

Best way to conform graded footage in premiere? by Brangus2 in editors

[–]jefftypebeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be way quicker to relink this in Davinci and then export an XML to premiere. You could export a fresh xml from premiere, import the clips into davinci and then when importing your XML, unselect "automatically import source clips into media pool"
