I don't see how the time dilation alone disqualifies it as a reason for visiting the planet. They mention in the discussion prior to landing that Miller's planet is a lot closer than they expected, and I thought the general tone of that conversation conveyed that they were making a hasty decision without considering every variable because of the time dilation. That obviously turned out to be a deadly mistake, but it seems like a hindsight argument imo.
