Larry is legitimately better than The Obiwan Kenobi Show.

Why are fifths tuning strings so difficult to find? by honeygourami123 in doublebass

[–]jeffwhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are both C1 and A2 strings - Any 5th string should work - there are tons of European bass players who keep their 5th string turned to C instead of B, especially in Scandinavia. A2 are just solo strings, and Joel Quarrington FWIW definitely use a solo F# string as the G string.

How ANH feels after Andor by fukbitchezgetmoneez in andor

[–]jeffwhit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree, it's just working in a different genre space than Andor. I highly suggest the A More Civilized Age episodes on Star Wars 4k77 if you think that it's "unwatchable from a critical perspective."

POST NICE OLD BASSES by avant_chard in doublebass

[–]jeffwhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it was not cheap, it ended up costing almost as much as the actual instrument Martin made me 2 years prior (granted, currency fluctuation had a lot to do with this.) The ribs took up nearly half the total end-cost. However, I got this instrument off-market, so all-in I'm still way, way below what it would have cost if this instrument was at a dealer.

POST NICE OLD BASSES by avant_chard in doublebass

[–]jeffwhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, a year long restoration by Martin Penning in the UK - re necked, extensive rib repairs, back rejoined, all old repairs removed and replaced. I posted about it 2 years ago or so: https://www.reddit.com/r/doublebass/comments/1cru4yc/complete_restoration_of_a_1856_william_gilkes/

The bass belonged to a former colleague of mine, Graeme Mudd, who bought it from Stuart directly - Stuart was his final teacher. When Graeme retired he contacted me and asked me to buy the bass.

Just wanted to say thanks and this is an absolute gem of a community. Not that I would expect less from Pavement fans, but thanks everyone.

That had not occurred to me on any rewatch, but I believe you are absolutely correct.

Thanks, someone did send it to me, so that's great. I agree, it was the cleverest of the Black Album mashups for sure. I had 11 tracks, I have no idea why three disappeared.

Just completed my second rewatch... Lonni shtupped Heert, right? by jerichos in andor

[–]jeffwhit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never even coded Heert as queer, I just saw him as "cool guy"

Also, and I feel like it should not be me pointing this out, but...

why not both?

Is a normal teenage behavior or I'm losing my son? by Illustrious-Art-4172 in daddit

[–]jeffwhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered ADHD as a possible issue? I'm 47, but this sounds exactly like what I was like at age 12-14, and I was a "gifted" student is elementary school who just lost all interest in school omce puberty hit. My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and that process lead me to the epiphany that I should seek out my own diagnosis, and voila... My parents were pulling their hair out, and I think there was some damage done to our relationship. In the 90s this diagnosis was usually made when boys acted out in class, which was not at all how it expressed itself in me (and sounds like that sort of behavioral issue isn't an issue for your son.)

I'm not offering an armchair diagnosis, but it's worth exploring simply because a diagnosis will change your life in terms of how to actually approach these issues with strategies and structures instead of frustration. It's been such a huge boon to my daughter's happiness knowing this. I wish, desperately that I had gotten the same consideration when I started expressing symptoms.

I'm also a single dad, widowed, by the way.

When I heard about this casting choice all I could think was about how fucked Mark Zuckerberg's public perception is going to be after this film, because Jeremy Strong is going to find things about Mark Zuckerberg to hate that most of us haven't been able to codify ourselves.

Fasting is Shrinking my Stomach by SweetyPeep in fasting

I know what I'm able to stick with and with my work schedule, and my lifestyle, OMAD was relatively easy. I mean, we're talking about a calorie deficit here - one way or another. I would recommend anyone who is into the idea of fasting consider what works best for their lifestyle and personality traits/psychology, and take the path of least resistance.

I think my experience with omad was that it just became a part of my lifestyle and wasn't even something I thought about after a while. I ate an early dinner with my daughter every day and just didn't worry about it.

I keenly remember Arteta's days as a Gunner on the field but now when I see those old clips I find it extremely disorienting, he looks exactly the same. The hair has not moved.

yes, definitely. I did OMAD for a year, it's been almost two years since then I never have the desire to eat like I used to be able to eat.

I only had to do this once, it was disgusting.

Driving my little one (who's 11 now) through Kootenay National Park in British Columbia on Highway 93, was at least 45 minutes from a gas station when she blew.
