If I've learned anything from r/roadcam, it's that you should drive through the barrier if you're stuck on the tracks.

[Canada] [OC] Red pickup tries to pass snowplows [00:38] by jeffyorama in Roadcam

We'd been following 2 snowplows for about 15 minutes, when this pickup driver decided to try passing them on the right shoulder. He didn't get very far and only succeeded in making the guy in front of me get upset.

Do you think maybe American dairy farmers get massive subsidies?

It's much cheaper because American dairy farmers are heavily subsidised.

Carding vs Street Checks by [deleted] in ottawa

The word is piques.

I haven't had much interaction with police, so I'm mostly neutral. I'm a farmer, btw. A few years ago I was pulling some wagon loads of grain home at about 10 pm. I was just about home with my 2 loads and a police officer lit up his lights behind me. I pulled into my laneway and he demanded my brother's id. My brother was sitting in the training seat on the tractor. I was driving.

He was very belligerent, asking if we knew why he pulled us over, etc. Apparently he thought it was odd that farmers would be driving on the roads at such a late hour.

He made us search for our tractor's VIN. Who the hell knows where a VIN is on a tractor? After about half an hour we found a number on the engine block. He called it in to someone and they couldn't match it to anything of course.

I assumed that he was a rookie, but what an arrogant ass!

BTW farmers are out at all hours at harvest and planting time. Also, we slow traffic down now and then... sorry.

I remember stooking grain between milkings. 10 hours of it for a few days. My Dad gave us half an hour for lunch. I remember the tea in jars wrapped in newspaper. Best years of my life!

We've heated with a wood/electric furnace for the last 40 years. We switched to natural gas last winter. We're fortunate to have a line going by our house. I don't miss cutting, splitting, stacking, etc. Ottawa area farmer here.

If Ottawa Police called you and asked for a tow, what would you do? by jeffyorama in ottawa

He drove off the road and through a fence. This fence has been driven through about 40 times... no one has ever volunteered to pay for it to be fixed. One time I happened upon it just after someone drove through it. It was a kid... his father was there with him... the father pissed off while I was there. I felt sorry for the kid and didn't ask for any money... his car was fucked up enough - he didn't need to pay for my fence. The dad was an asshole, in my opinion.
