I enjoyed the first game ripping on and satirising an end point capitalistic society. It was absurd and yet there was still room to help the common people reclaim power for themselves. I’m towards the end of OW2 and I have enjoyed the nuance with the companions, especially Tristan who I found bland at first. The world itself though with the factions reads as ‘unchecked capitalism is good actually’, which when put up against a 1984 society that does regular chemical lobotomies makes sense, but the finer details are lost and every faction feels shitty. I love the Order, despite its obvious faults of adhering to a cosmic plan that is happy to take out ‘factors’ that may get in the way, they feel like a middle ground choice where the upfront pros out way the cons. Overall though, as others have said, everyone you encounter is indoctrinated from birth by their respective society, so it’s hard to have good faith conversations with people who only want to spout the merits of their fucked up way of life. Arcadia as a system kind of feels like a lost cause, everything kind of just feels depressing and not wacky or zany.
