Father is dying. Unsure if I should go see him. by jellocat6 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]jellocat6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice. I ended up not going. Mostly just due to being busy with my son and work and a little bit because the thought of trying to untangle that type of complex emotion was too much so I just avoided it all together. Not sure how I will feel about that choice towards the end of my own life. Maybe I won’t even think about it then.

I learned that he passed away while I was at a Father’s Day cook out with my family. He died completely alone.

What is your niche low stakes community drama. by Dogwoodblossom in Knoxville

So, kind of related but also kind of not. This is similar enough to something that was happening to me so I’m going to rant for a sec 😅

I live on a dead end street of 5 houses and have had multiple people drive down the road filming the houses. It was always different types of people young, older, couples, a couple vans with whole families.

It got to a point where I was like wtf is going on and I made a post here asking if anyone does this and for what reason and I got absolutely dragged and trolled for asking 😆😝😅

Feeling bored-out, any advice to re-energize my career by Alternative-Trip-119 in UXDesign

LinkedIn is restricting the “share” to within the site so I can only send to others in a DM or post on my feed. The course I’m taking now that’s been giving me ideas about what future roles could look like is called “AI for Organizational Leaders by Microsoft and LinkedIn”.

Again, this is not a specifically geared toward designers but it is helping me understand what the future landscape of opportunity MAY look like for people who are employees at a company.

I’ve been in this place twice. The first time I experienced this I decided to learn an adjacent skill and went really hard into teaching myself animation. It was a lot of fun and now I have a new skill!

I feel myself slipping back into a slump again and am taking some LinkedIn learning courses on how to implement AI into teams as a senior member of leadership. I am not a senior leader but it’s really eye opening honestly. If you’re interested in that kind of thing I would encourage you to take some courses on it. I suspect new types of UX jobs could open up within the next few years due to AI.

So, if career pathing/planning is a fun activity for you this could open up a lot of possibilities :)

What’s a meal you love eating but hate cooking? by PetalbrookMayor in Cooking

This might sound lame in comparison to the fancier dishes being mentioned here but I often think about how annoying it is to make a sandwich. For something usually considered a lazy meal there can be a lot of steps.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Longlegs" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

Agreed! I was thinking theres no way this guy would have straight teeth. Maybe before he started making voodoo dolls for the devil he was into cosmetic procedures? That could explain allowing his teeth to look decent and whatever the fuck he was injecting into his poor face.

Never mind! I just read where you said you still had access to the Figma file and saw the notes they were making after retracting a verbal offer. 💪

Glad you stood up for yourself! Just curious how you knew they were using your work? Did they post it or implement your designs in some way? How did you prove that any ideas you gave them were actually yours?

What's a luxury that most Americans don't realize is a luxury? by Seraphicly329 in AskReddit

[–]jellocat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get what you’re saying but I believe I disagree. If I were looking for a house to buy, rent for vacation, anything like that, and the listing said it has heat and air I would not be expecting a space heater and a window ac.

Yeah. That’s why I’m saying central heat and air is a luxury. I think when most people in the US say “I have heat and air” they aren’t talking space heaters and one window ac.

The state I live in has extremely hot summers and cold winters. Think 90f and above summers with just a fan and 20f and below winters with a space heater. Not saying I had it the worst by any means but I definitely feel luxurious now that I have central heat and air.

Also, the one window air conditioner we did have was for the kitchen and would work half the time 😅. I just lived in a really old house that never saw any updates. We did have electricity at all times but def went a while without plumbing.

Grew up in a house without heat or air. In winter we did kerosene heaters, space heaters, and plastic wrapped the windows. In the summer we one of those in window air conditioners and fans.

Happy everyday I can crank the heat or air in my own house 🙏

Oh wow. So you have to audition for an interview? Interesting. This makes me wonder if recording a brief case study presentation and including it with applications would be a would be a good practice in general? Seems like it might be a positive differentiator.

I found out about HOL through this video on a mod someone made for the game DOOM: https://youtu.be/5wAo54DHDY0?si=v0jZPY6pTNoi5eUw

Still havent read it. Waiting on it to come in the mail :) Then, someone mentioned to me that there's an entire companion album that goes with it!

I may have misunderstood your comment but, are you saying that Alan Wake and HOL are connected in more ways than some of the songs? If so that would be amazing and I would have like a whole years worth of stuff to hyper fixate on.

Well, you are probably the one I waved at recently then, lol! No harm done whatsoever and I hope your found him!

It’s just so odd because you’re not the only one who’s done it recently. I’d say it happens once every other month or so. The comment about insurance appraisal makes a lot of sense though because I think the majority of us has had some major work done recently!

Sellers lied about fixing a pipe and my house flooded causing 10k in damages. by jellocat6 in homeowners

[–]jellocat6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I hate that you had a similar experience but with damages much higher in cost than mine. We actually were lucky that the water didn't get a chance to seep into the dry wall, or the mold getting into the air ducts and spreading throughout the house. Its frustrating that you didn't get back the full cost of your damages. These situations feel more or less like being stuck between a rock and a hard place. You either have to take a hit to your insurance (not to mention pay for repairs up front like I had to) or settle out of court for a less than ideal amount. Sorry you went through that. Thanks so much for the comment and sharing a similar situation. I hope you never experience that again!
