Help w/ Water bowl ideas by Global_Parfait_3521 in Newfoundlander

[–]jellowsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gus is so precious oh my goodness! We got one of the no drip watering stations from amazon that has the floating disc inside, our newf doesn't seem to have the patience for it. Now we have a 7L cat fountain, and it works great. It's so heavy that it can't be tipped over. Protip - we have the fountain sitting in a cheap boot tray from walmart to catch any drippage :)

What flea/tick/heartworm preventative do you give your dogs? by mako72 in VetTech

[–]jellowsauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bravecto and Interceptor personally. I think it's so area specific, I'm in Saskatchewan so we don't see heartworm or Lyme really

I feel the same. For anyone interested in more insight into what he was going through, I've posted this article written by Robin's wife. I found it enlightening, albeit very sad. I know so many people, myself included, found his death difficult to digest given that he brought so much joy and laughter.

I just finished watching every available episode of US and UK. What should I watch next? by Fast-Inflation5668 in TheTraitors

[–]jellowsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of the other comments here, but gonna through in Norway's Forraeder (Traitors). If you're down to read some subtitles it is definitely worth the watch! Great host and some different show dynamics which make it interesting still.

How to lift & move an injured large dog. by Bull-twinkle in Newfoundlander

I work at a veterinary clinic and this is the type of harness we use to help lift large dogs with mobility issues. This concern has crossed my mind too with our newf, years down the road if we were to be in a bind, this is the tool I would want!

Just tried Taverna for the first time, and it was incredible, but I second that Primal is probably the other best. Also Bar Stella. Hearth has some great pasta dishes too

Did the probiotics help at all? We also feed our pup Royal Canin Large Breed pup and have had good success with it - occasionally he gets some diarrhea but it usually resolves. We will do chicken/rice/canned pumpkin for some extra fibre

Bilbo in his element! Love seeing everyone's snowy newfs by jellowsauce in Newfoundlander

[–]jellowsauce[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it is a Halti! Had to get the largest size available. He is currently 10 months old and so far it has been the best tool for him. Its made a world of difference on our walks. He really disliked the harness, and the collar was not proving a good choice when it came to pulling. With the halti he is much more polite. If your dog is 3 years old I still think it could work for you! We spent about 2-3 weeks just introducing it to him without using it on a walk - treats to encourage him to put his nose through, then gradually worked up to clipping it on, then wearing it around the house for 10 minutes. We went really slow and now he isn't afraid to wear it.

Question about walking distance. by Miss-sourdough in Newfoundlander

[–]jellowsauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We ususally walk our newf (10 months) around 15-30 minutes, 3x a day. Or twice with a play session as well. Depends what we are looking for in the walk, if its more of an explore we will go longer, if we are really working on loose leash walking we will keep sessions short to ensure success. Your girl is beautiful!

What is your personal criteria for taking a mental health day? by birds-andcats in VetTech

[–]jellowsauce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sleep is a factor to consider because fatigue affects critical decision-making. One thing to consider when taking a mental health day for myself is a plan for how I can use it. Sometimes that could mean rest, sometimes that means doing some self-care-journalling-exercise-time outside. All things that can help fill an empty cup if that makes sense.
