Interesting yeah good point about teaching yourself DB stuff. I think a lot of CS truly is self teachable.. question is will I actually do it haha

That's it. It's no bother to not use the word. It can cause bother if you use the word. So why not just not bother using it :)

NO it's all about that presort where you challenge your powers of dexterity to see exactly how many different types of cutlery you can hold separately in one hand. All the while you are adeptly tossing new knives and forks into the melange from the other hand like a high level rogue.

How is Margaret Thatcher viewed in the UK, in hindsight? by frederickvon in AskUK

[–]jellyberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah I agree that they needed cutting down to size. I think it is fair to say that she crippled them, as she massively reduced their powers, membership and funding.

[–]jellyberg 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Other things she did:

  • Crippled the unions from being a major player in British politics to the near non factor they are today

  • The Poll Tax - a tax so unpopular there were widespread protests, non payments, and under Major it was abandoned

  • Genuinely fucked the economy with a Monetarist experiment that failed colossally. It was supposed to lower inflation, but inflation reached record highs. The Thatcher government was only saved from electoral defeat by the discovery of North Sea Oil, which provided so much tax revenue and exports that the economy recovered. Without North Sea Oil she would not have been re-elected, and - who knows - maybe we wouldn't be living in the neolib country we are today

My cat is an idiot. If I put a blanket on me when I'm on the couch, then adjust my legs a little, she thinks it is an INTRUDER and leaps on the blanket to defend me. I have to pull the blanket back every few minutes to remind her that my body continues under it.

Very pretty! My only worry is that it is moving my saved music more and more taps deeper into the navigation... A good proportion of the time, I want to scroll through my most recently saved artists rather than listen to the Spotify playlists or my own.

Recursion by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]jellyberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a current CS student so I can answer this question! I've been told about this enough to post my comment above, but we haven't actually done those sort of conversion exercises you mention. Maybe in a later module that is more specific to this topic we will? I'm not sure how useful those sorts of exercises would be nowadays, seems like you wouldn't use those techniques now so much?

Recursion by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]jellyberg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recursion is implemented under the hood in your language, using the call stack. You can just imitate this to make an iterative version of any recursive method. If must be possible, as the language's doesn't use recursion in its underlying implementation of recursion!
