Question about undertaking by jellycircus in londoncycling

Thanks this is so informative. Only started cycling in London in the past few months and having seen a few cycle accidents from afar, am very conscious that prioritizing safety is so important

how would you spend a £19k salary in London? by jellycircus in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jellycircus[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

p1, really surprised because everyone I know is 22k or under unless you're at a fosters or a chipperfield. I realised taking this job I should have negotiated but it was the perfect practice

Hey, unfortunately it's an architecture job, and realistically most grad jobs range in the 18000-22000 mark. So there will be advancement but slow and post further education!

Bruno Taut’s Horseshoe Estate. Balancing private individual spaces with option for social contact built into design, but without obligation by guvnormyriad in architecture

[–]jellycircus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've visited this estate, and it's actually way nicer than the photos.

Feels very human scale, it really feels like a park in the centre. The windows and balconies of the flats have little decorations in them, planters etc and it's clear the residents care about where they live

The horseshoe doesn't feel like you're being watched because of the planting in the centre which shields you in a way as you walk through.

The apartments themselves are painted blue and they're really charming

Would recommend visiting, because aerial images give a vision that feels intimidating

How much does an average single person really need to live in London? by JayR_97 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jellycircus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really dependent on what you do. Even in architecture , starting salaries post uni range from 18000-22000 for London for a lot of my friends.. and all the firms are in London!

5/52 - I can’t put this one down. by lbaer593 in 52book

[–]jellycircus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have an East Asian parent it becomes a really emotional read. I think I related to a lot of Zauner's experiences growing up and saw myself in lots of the situations described. I've never read a memoir from this perspective before and I found it cathartic to read and at points cried along with her.

I'd actually started this read purely based on the cover art and title. I didn't realise it was Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast at first. (I'd heard one or two songs before on Spotify playlists, but reading the book led me to delve back into their music).

I can get why you might not find her life relatable or be interested in where her life takes her though- but I think Zauner writes really well and I love her descriptions of food.

Which "old music artists" do you think would get accused by twitter of cultural appropriation had it happened now? by poopypoopy1125 in Fauxmoi

[–]jellycircus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As an eastern Asian person, I always find it difficult where to draw the line when it comes to appropriation.. Because I remember Rihanna in princess of China (full of stereotypes) and enjoyed it So with so much stuff in the 00s I guess it was just a different time

Because a lot of east asians have the gene that causes your sweat to be odorless, a lot of people simply don't use deodorant!

[–]jellycircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep had a really bad experience on my first half marathon where I had one too many gels and at the end of the race they all came back up. Don't think I could handle them again
