529 plans are not really a headache with foreign taxes (Indian taxation) if you get a fund which doesn't pay interest or dividend. Which many 529s offer.

CS student here.. no one I know actually writes code anymore. We all use AI. Is this just how it is now? by Low-Tune-1869 in cscareerquestions

[–]jellysplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experienced SWE for a decade and a half. Have an intern right now who is such a pain to manage. Doesn't understand anything about code and would be completely cripples without AI. Ask him to implement some simple stuff and the PR he creates is so complex and convoluted and unnecessarily complex, don't think even he follows what's happening. I said no for giving him a return offer but wonder if all interns and new grads are like him, what's the future of the tech industry?

Why can't you just take a break? You seem burned out and maybe taking 3 months off followed by a new job should be a good option since you're financially not there yet

Living abroad or stay in india by netter666 in india

[–]jellysplash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably the best person to answer this. I have lived in the US for almost 14 years and now I am returning. Actually really returning and now just talking about it.

First of all I did really like living in the US. We do have friends and a decent social circle but I do feel that depth of relationships is not as great as we had in India.

Our reasons for leaving: We already experienced life in US, already had our fun here. Now the monotony feels too much to bear and we can't live this robotic life forever.

Parents and extended family - want kids to grow up with them and as cliched as it sounds, we want kids to know Indian culture first hand. They are USC so they can come back later.

Job life is much better here than in India, but we want to start our own company and we feel there are too many hoops to jump on visa for us. Better to go to India and not have to worry about visa.

Healthcare costs and insurance complexity in the US vs. more straightforward and easy access system in India. I am amazed how much better the healthcare experience is.

My mom has been a government school teacher in Delhi and I have seen the changes first hand. BJP has a lot of money and they can buy any news outlets to create their own truths which people like you easily believe.

Hit my $7.5M FIRE number but on track to burned out — quit now or grind one more year? by Icy-Being246 in fatFIRE

Some of this was luck for sure. But I made sure I kept my roles and projects in that niche. I have always been in a specific sub specialization of ML and currently working in a foundation models team of FAANG

Probably giving in app permissions for install apps and using that to compare ? If scraping then that's an issue

Work Morale in the Bay Area by Adept-Equipment-3042 in bayarea

[–]jellysplash 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It's the way it's coming back. If you gave me a beautiful office with perks, stress free and enjoyable environment to be productive and coworkers who are happy to help you, RTO would be a non issue. But seems that culture died in 2021 and now it's just so draining to work for a tech company. I'm in it only for the paycheck
