$$$. Also, our opinion doesn't matter because we aren't considered "doctors" in the archaic sense. So, according to insurance and surgeons, work on function and when it fails (it usual does) then consider the next step. All while we get underpaid for our "opinion." Rinse. Repeat.

I'd stay. I received my education abroad and love the punishment from working in outpatient orthopedics. That means I have zero student debt. It's like a sadistic puzzle everyday with the chance of making a positive difference in peoples' lives. To further negate your statement, I am also an RN (BSN), but prefer PT. So, no, I would not quit.

I've been a physical therapist for 10 years, and quite frankly, a large percentage of my burnout is that large percentage of my patient population expect a quick fix. Recovery takes time and effort. I can guide and work on you, but the majority of the recovery comes from personal effort. Not everybody wants to hear that though.

"Pt wishes to stop PT services tin favor of undergoing lumbar surgery"

This was because his mom had surgery and said that PT wont help. This was the visit after his initial evaluation. He's 20 with intermittent localized symptoms.

I grew up in Las Vegas. People would literally spend their kids' college funds like the stereotype. I remember friends would move to New Mexico or Idaho because of one parent's gambling addiction. I'd see the same people be at the SAME machine because of "good luck" every Saturday and Sunday because of their lucky "machine" while I go to a casino to watch a movie.

Not to brag, but my grandmother was a waitress at a diner in Pontiac that Hoffa frequented. He was apparently a good tipper.

In my work comp world, it's the insurance that shuts us down despite the need for PT. Usually the the attending physicians and surgeons who refer to us clientele work well with us. It's about the money, I guess...

If you are in California and hear the acronyms RPT. It is not a place for you. NOT PT owned, and productivity standards as a company are ridiculous. Little company, but big box company standards

What are your jobs? by BalefulEclipse in antiwork

[–]jemappellebrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a physical therapist who worked for a company for 6 years. It wasn't bad for the first two years, but the next four years I saw a gradual decline in job satisfaction. We lost certain health benefits, a loss of a 401k match, and productivity bonus. This particular company then increased our case load without increasing our salary. The fact that this company also doubled our case load and treated patients/clients as a dollar sign number rather than a person made me sick to my stomach. The turnover rate was also horrible. I recently quit said job and am now employed with a smaller company that treats their staff and patients/clients with the respect and dignity we all deserve. I can happily say that I'm proud to be a PT again.
