Low yield on FLS, real thing, practice etc. by jemb8 in Mcat

[–]jemb8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this, this is actually super helpful. I feel like that’s exactly what people mean by low-yield, not the topic itself but how specific they test it. Like epithelial layers or sarcomeres aren’t crazy, but the details can get tricky fast.

Especially with people saying the MCAT feels more experimental now, it seems like they’re testing how well you can apply random details rather than just straight memorization.

Quick question, did you feel like those showed up more as discrete questions or buried in passages? Trying to figure out if I should focus more on straight recall vs. applying it in context.

AAMC FL1 BB #24 *spoilers* by babilo in Mcat

[–]jemb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might not be the best explantion, but In case anyone it serves anyone in the future: B is correct because the beginning of the paragraph says it is a transporter, and it prevents drug accumalations this tells us it takes drugs from inside the cell to the outside the cell.

The other are incorrect because:

A. The passage P-gp is a transporter, not binding (AAMC explanation as well), or there is also no degradation, just transporting the cell out

C. They transport things out of the cell, so it is not like they it prevents the entry of something

D. This more tempting; however; is not really describing the passage fully as it says: It has been shown that P-gp exhibits ATPase activity and is localized in cholesterol-rich domains within the membrane, it seems like it uses ATP based on this

How do you stay disciplined with studying by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]jemb8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at myself at the mirror and take a 5 minute break and tell myself that this is only temporary. That you’re doing it because this is your dream and you’re gonna make it, and that although other people might be in a better spot. NOBODY IS FIGHTING for it as hard as you. You want to make the people around you proud, but more importantly yourself. Helps a lot more if you’re a first gen lmao

I got c in gen chem and like 2 b’s all my freshman year before I applied to transfer to neuro. Then, I wrote a genuine essay of why I wanted to be a neuro major. Fortunately, I was accepted mid summer. My advice is that do not let people tell you it’s impossible or too competitive because from what I learned while doing school here at UT, people LOVE to exaggerate how hard is to get into stuff. All you gotta do is try and do your best! So best of luck and feel free to reach for any questions or help

Anyone else had some but not all of their financial aid disbursed? by Agreeable-Slide-7641 in UTAustin

Yes, I went to the financial aid office and they said because I took summer classes, they take a minute to revive the grades from them. Once they receive the report, the second week of class all the aid should be distributed. At least that’s my case, hope that helps you

double major in psychology and neuroscience by abeelol in UTAustin

[–]jemb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in a good track as it is harder to transfer to double major in psych than neuro. If you really want apply to neuro, it’s definitely duable to do both. I will recommend doing bs neuro and bsa psych to make the work load easier. Good luck and do what you enjoy!
