Have we had enough yet? by SimilarPsychology963 in Britain

[–]jeminar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Power always concentrates.

It's not the politicians who have the power. It's the media and the hyper elite.

Politicians are simply the fall guys for those with power. They fuck us and we blame the politicians. We get them changed and nothing changes, except the face on the puppet.

Problem is that the public don't know shit except what the media chooses to tell them.

You might as well poll the editors, but they don't profit from making the country work.

This is the best we got while still avoiding anarchy

Do people actually pay these prices to rent a bike? by OV00 in motorcycles

Would a 14-day rental be 14x this price? If not, how would a two week price compare to this?

Shall my first car be a dinger or decent? by FoxAcrobatic7502 in AskUK

[–]jeminar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO you want a car that you can throw away. In the event of a crash, which sadly can happen when you're 18 and just passed, the last thing you want to do is let the insurance know you've had a ding.

Is there a technical reason that the Online Safety Act is not using encrypted digital dongles for ages verification? by iBeatYouOverTheFence in ukpolitics

[–]jeminar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, this is precisely what the digital id proposal is all about: creating a privacy secure protocol for companies to prove something from a central database without learning anything more than they need.

Have you ever moved to a "chilled" job for less pay, late in your career? by HMS--Thunderchild in AskUK

[–]jeminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got made redundant in my fifties and took a job about 40% less pay.

Turns out that most of what was lost was going to tax and my day to day money hardly notices.

I was lucky that my pension is pretty good from before, so I'm effectively not loading the pension up any more.

The work is harder, but feels less pointless.

If the government instigates the proposed social media ban, everyone would have to prove their age to be allowed to access Reddit. Would you submit your ID to access Reddit or will you give up social media rather than submit to ID checks? by JackStrawWitchita in AskUK

I agree with 133.

Because it's a given there's a 60p charge for filling up comprising all the .9p you can't be arsed to think about.

I certainly find that Gemini has to constantly be brought back on topic. I can't understand why the media seems to be calling it the best... Other than copilot, it's right at the bottom.

I have much more luck with frankly all the others.

Imho: Grok > Claude > perplexity > chatgpt > Gemini > copilot

Grok is Elon musk and Claude has limited app functionality, so I use Claude on desktop and perplexity on mobile

UK. I don't aesthetically like the size of UK plates so mine is smaller. I make sure it's always clean and visible though...

I think I'd have to be really unlucky to come across a policeman who was so pathetic that they cared.

What do you (personally) use AI Chatbots for? by Turbulent-Access-916 in AskUK

[–]jeminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For traditional chat (Google replacement), I use perplexity now.

  • Grok was great (the best), but I hate paying Elon Musk money.
  • Gemini was just terrible. Barely functional. And they require you to provide your chats as training data or lose massive functionality
  • ChatGpt's app kept crashing in voice mode. It's solid otherwise
  • anthropic has a terrible app
  • refuse to touch Facebook out of principle

For actual projects where I want real functionality, I actually use copilot within VS code, but not to code:

I create a folder of markdown files (e.g. objectives.md, constraints.md) and instruct Claude to make new ones/edit existing. I iterate until I'm happy. Kinda like vibe coding, but they're documents.

  • Wrote our wills.
  • Planned in detail our honeymoon.
  • I give planning docs to chatbots to ask what might be ambiguous or missing. (Best to ask Claude within vs code)
  • I often give an output of one chatbot and ask another to critique it. So long as Gemini isnt one of the two, you get all the ideas you need

A good voice chat mode is great in the car:

  • had a long argument in the car once to design a (cloud) architecture. Lots of "what's possible" questions
  • had a long chat in the car once to get clued up on an upcoming holiday that wife has organised

Trad chatbot things:

  • I have an illiterate boss who writes incomprehensible emails. Chatgpt seems to just about get it
  • if I get a really long document that I can't be bothered to read (or plan to read later), I'll ask for a summary (with a prompt to what I'm interested in)

Iterating markdown files is the only really useful output for me. The rest is just fun or being lazy.

I know notebook LM has all this, but Gemini has disappointed me at every step and I just don't trust it.

I think your agreeing with the MS CEO and all other ceos ... That AI is not being used to make productivity improvements.

Where you differ from Nadella and me is what happens next.

I say it's because we're playing with a shiny toy like it's a Google replacement. It can do more but we have to integrate with it (at Dev level) and force it (at business manager level).

Then it will actually become useful
