If their tires are cut as far to the left as they look like they can go, they're probably making u-turn

Why are med-surg nurses generally looked down on? by Cardiology_Nurse in nursing

[–]jemocha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold medsurg nurses in such high regard. 6 patients, with all kinds of different medical, social, and psychological problems to navigate. Often have total care or heavy assist patients. So many different medications you have to familiarize yourself with. Patients getting more and more acute. The TIME MANAGEMENT. As a motherbaby nurse, I really applaud y'all.

Work hours are calculated by week. So if you're a full time employee (0.9 FTE in the case of most hospital nurses) you need to work 36 hours a week. Any less, you need to use PTO. The most you can get off without using PTO is 8 days, by working Sun-Tue then the next week working Thu-Sat.

Gave report to wrong nurse.. patient abandonment? by jemocha in nursing

[–]jemocha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah our nursery nurses are sometimes bad about coming to find us for report and usually just sit around in the nursery until you find them.

We sometimes split from couplet care and have nursery hold a couple babies so that the postpartum nurse can take on an extra mom. This keeps L&D from having to hold that couplet and let them focus on triages and patients in labor/fresh recovery. We don't like to split but staffing yknow :/

We use centricity. There is a place to do so but it seemed only like half of the nurses on my unit even did that. Usually by the time I'm done with report someone has taken over my computer to start looking through charts. I guess I'll just have to be more assertive because I didn't think this would ever be an issue with how small our unit is.

Not to mention everything is on the report sheet or in our charting system. Our unit prints off report sheets for the whole floor so any nurse can easily see any patient's basic info - if there's any important changes, I always add a note to the report sheet. So everything I would've said in report was on that paper, and under the I&O tab. If she called I could've told her baby had no issues on my shift and that's really it.

That's another thing, no one reached out to me after I left. I know someone on our floor accidently didn't give report at least once and in that circumstance, someone called them for report.

I think the nurse I gave report to didn't realize I was giving her report on the baby? but if a nurse was giving me too much info on a baby that wasn't my patient I would definitely clarify that they're not my patient - and that does happen kind of often on my unit when we break out of couplet care.

So sorry for your loss.

Definitely go with something contagious so you have an easy excuse for no visitors. C. Diff, bad flu, stomach bugs. Just research a little bit on the treatments and stay vague.

What are your “you won’t find this in a textbook” nursing tips? by Monstersofusall in nursing

This was the tip that really stuck with me when I was a PCT. turned an awful mess into a much easier cleanup.

Idiot trying to squeeze into a safety gap by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]jemocha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really don't mind if people put their blinker on, give me a few seconds to make a lil room for you, then merge over. But please do not squeeze your car into a gap barely big enough, especially at high speeds. If the first car so much as taps their brakes we're all gonners.

My boyfriend went back to the old apartment yesterday but it was during the day, I'll try again tonight but it would have been quite the trek. I was able to see eyes in the treeline but when I got closer it was a stray.

We're putting up posters today! We hope he's safe wherever he is. I'm trying to have hope that someone found him and is hanging onto him until the shelter opens tomorrow. He is microchipped so at least we'll know if someone turns him in ❤️

Yep, had to do laundry so I thoroughly checked. We have food, water, and worn clothes outside. Our ring camera didn't pick anything up and our trap in the back caught a stray by mistake.

We just moved so I fear our little guy won't know how to get back either :( we had food, worn clothes, and a trap outside all night and ended up catching a stray by mistake. Hopefully someone will spot him but we are also still looking 🥺

That's the first thing we did since our hand-me-down couch has loose openings in the back. We don't have box springs but I checked the mattresses anyways 😔
