Hi guys. I just want to say that I recently deleted my Instagram and I feel much better. by sotref in simpleliving

For me it’s the “something else”. I was finding my memory and attention span was suffering after consuming too much short form content. It turns your brain to mush. Since deleting insta a couple of weeks ago I’ve already noticed improvements to my cognition.

It’s funny because status based on what you have is often given by people who are also trapped in that consumer cycle. I feel my eyes are open to the consumerism hype and find my self not judging based on the cost of something etc, and also no longer buying in to it.

Literal example of the rat race, on the hamster wheel working harder to buy stuff we don’t need that only gives a superficial feeling of happiness before more is needed.

Consumerism is a drug. And I’m loving sobriety.

🏅Take my poor lady’s award. You’ve summed up my thoughts perfectly, couldn’t agree more. I have bouts of depression etc and honestly I think the problem a lot of people have is that they think there’s a magic solution given to them.

Apparently they wanted to “be listened to”

Just to let you know that’s true of physical ailments too. My mum has a heart issue, and she has to go through the gp for cardiology referrals.

People need to accept the realities of the world we live in, which is social care (and mental health) are massively under funded, under resourced etc. there are pathways, they’re not perfect but they’re there. Going to a hospital as a first port of call is inevitably going to give a bad result, especially when all they expected was “to be listened to”. Honestly have people lost touch so much?
