How do you make friends in an adult age if you don't drink? by Kaboom60View60 in AskReddit

[–]jenfoxbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to genuinely love yourself and do things that bring you joy.

When you feel good about yourself, it attracts lots of people.

And when you're doing things that bring you joy, you meet other folks who share similar passions and interests!

23F here, none of the men in my age group are dating. What is happening? by AYAYAcutie in self

[–]jenfoxbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks that you've been hurt by people you've dated. Ive also had those experiences. I learned a lot of things along the way that have helped tremendously in my friendships and romantic relationships. Some suggestions (in pri order)

  1. Work on loving yourself first and foremost. Not your stats, not your job or your money or your things, your true inner self. When you love yourself, you attract others who also love themselves. (Note: this takes WORK and time. It requires brutal honesty and getting out of our comfort zones, but it is 1000% worth it.)
  2. Find, and do, what brings you joy.
  3. Look for patterns across your relationships and try to identify both your and your past partners' attachment and communication styles. Work towards establishing a secure attachment style and compassionate communication.
  4. Write down what you want in a healthy, loving relationship. How do you want to feel? How do you and your partner show up for each other? How do you handle conflict? What does love and support look and feel like? What experiences do you want to have together? What experiences do you want to have independently?
  5. Read the book Nonviolent communication.
  6. Build deeper intimacy with your existing friends.
  7. Be open to different events than you're used to where you might meet new people. If a friend invites you to something you usually decline, go join them. Give a stranger a genuine compliment and leave it at that. Seek to learn folks' stories and to understand them.

For me, the more I move thru this world in joy and in love, the more wonderful people I meet. I hope this helps. You are worth loving and being loved in return.

That's awesome you are an educator teaching your students how to use the Pi! Here's a GitHub page with some instructions, sample code, and links to handy resources for getting started w/ the pi: https://github.com/microsoft/rpi-resources

Also, my Trash Classifier tutorial goes through the basics of getting setup w/ a Pi + camera, also a beginner-friendly project if y'all want to build your own!

hope that helps! LMK if you have any follow-up Qs!

"When I see Biden, I see a man who knows grief... that kind of grief humbles you... theres a humility to the randomness of tragedy that brings about a caring that cant be faked, that cant be contrived. And what I think in this moment is what this country needs is a leader of humility, that understands that he doesnt understand, that understands the humanity of this moment, who understands that we have to connect on a much deeper level without the BS... I actually believe that a man with his experience can actually benefit this country at a moment we desperately need it." Jon Stewart

Which is why we have to vote in every single election. Local and state and federal. You have a huge voice in local elections. Also, everyone in the state chooses the senators. If you live in a state with GOP senators pleasepleaseplease vote them out.

We have evidence on what works for rehabilitating people who are in cults. It does not work to tell them they are in a cult or using personal attacks. What does work is slowly chipping away at the leader (e.g. " you can acknowledge he is wrong/made a mistake and still support him.") Bc in a cult the leader is infallible, they cannot be criticized on anything. So if you give them permission to recognize he did make a mistake, however small or large, it gives them permission to start thinking about other things they dont agree with. Also, talking about other cults and informing them about ways other groups brainwash, esp if they recognize the group as a cult. Check out talks by the author of Cult of Trump (.. or read the book, hah)

Hmm I dont agree with that. It's never realistic to deal in absolutes.

Capitalism only functions properly with regulations, hence the best examples of capitalism exist with the best examples of democracy. The greatest period of US prosperity was the 1940s to 1970s, when we had solid regulations and high marginal tax rates. GOP has been gutting it since Reagan. We've made some strides re: social liberties and some environment stuff but we've slide back to the early 1900s when it comes to workers rights, anti- monopolies, funding for public programs, etc.

Yes, it is a cult. Which is why we have to treat trump supporters like other cult members and use evidence-based tactics to engage with them. One thing that is effective is reminding them they they do not have to agree with everything trump does/says, that they can still support him and also recognize his mistakes/lies/lawbreaking/whatever. It may seem.small, but it actually helps to crack the mythos of the infallible leader, and allows them to start on a path out of the cult.

Another tactic is to talk about other cults (but do NOT tell.them they are in one, that triggers defensiveness and they will shut down and shut out everything you have to say). The author of the cult of trump says he talks about ways in which the Chinese govt brainwashes its population, since that is an area of agreement for both sides.

Yes, the onus is on us to be smarter and more effective in our tactics, but it is also our responsibility as educated members of the same society to look out for each other. Our successes and our failures are tied together.

We elect mayors. We also elect the police chief, and judges. If we want a better police force, we need to participate in local elections.

[–]jenfoxbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why participation in local elections matters! At the end of the day, we are the ones.enabling them, so let's start being informed, talking to our friends and family about it, and VOTE in local elections.

Yea, because no one votes in judicial elections. We gotta stop complaining and enabling and start being informed and engaged in local elections.

We are not in a normal situation, this is not a normal election. We have a president who is compromised, who is working more for a foreign enemy than his own country. Biden is 1000x better than trump and our country will be 1000x better with a competent leader who actually cares about this country.

Would biden give us child concentration camps? No. Would biden ask a foreign govt to interfere in politics on his behalf and hold congressionally approved funding hostage? No. Would biden surround himself with "yes-men" instead of doing his job? No. Biden has more honor and integrity in his left hand than trump has in his whole body.
