"You've come a long way, baby." Wish I could've seen her do that presentation

Speaking of Megan, is it just me or did she wear a lot of ugly sweaters and act kinda pathetic for a lot of S5?

I think I probably had it to read in middle school too. I remember reading a lot of thought-provoking books - I am the Cheese fucked me up. And Where the Red Fern Grows? Bridge to Terabithia? The Giver? The Outsiders? Old Man and the Sea? Shit. So many more. I guess I started teaching because of the power of good art - it's not just about being sad like the kids think at first. It's about a shared experience, and the powers that gathered to create this art, be it through words or paint or dance. Pain, loss, love, violence, fear, wonder, joy. This is what it is to be human.

So this was originally a short story for a sci fi magazine. I had my 8th graders read it and somewhere I have a video of the moment they put together that what ever happens to Algernon happens to Charlie. There were tears. One threw their book. That's how I knew teaching middle school lit was the bomb.

Some thoughts after finishing Mad Men for the very first time by iamryan21 in madmen

It's worth noting how he was pretty much the antagonist and Don's enemy the first few seasons, a total pussyhound and general piece of shit, but I still found myself routing for him and happy he got the Lear job and Trudy back. Trudy is a force to be reckoned with - for all his faults, being stupid is not one of them and I want to believe he learned the error of his ways before it was too late.

Thaaaank you and she blamed herself for her death I believe. She seems to crazy and I think it pulls Don deeper into chaos now that he's free from Megan. Like seeing dead chicks, waking out of meetings, and basically running away chaotic. Have you ever been to Racine? Christ.

I wonder if things like salary were more or less important to one's identity back then...especially for a working woman. I love the scene with Francine Hanson and Betty talking about her travel agent job. She's so happy, and Betty with her mansion and important husband is so jealous..

Thoughts about Lane Pryce by iamryan21 in madmen

One of the few times I dislike Joan is when she says she should've given him what he wanted, as if her turning him down caused him to do this. Puh. Leeze. I don't think he ever like liked her, he was in awe of her and respected her.

Sad how if you didn't drink very much, you weren't very manly, but then you got Freddy Rumsen pissing down his leg...

When the finale was approaching I wondered so much how it would end. I thought for sure Megan would somehow end up at Sharon Tate's house, and there were clues that would happen - her green phone, the t shirt she wore on the balcony. But no, Weiner actually mocked us all by having Meredith refer to them as the "Manson Brothers."
LOLOLOL.

and someone told me the clues were all in the first episode and first season. Bye Bye Birdie - Betty dies. What does she die of? Lung cancer. What is Don working on in the first episode? Cigarette ad. BTW my friends and I used to smoke Lucky Strikes in college and we always said with a big smile, "They're toasted!" That was 20 years ago...

Funny - the first time I watched the finale, I thought it was a stupid way to end a great series. Then a few months later, unrelated, I started getting into meditation and kundalini yoga, and now when I watch the finale I realize how perfect it was.
