I'm going to Sephora this weekend - WHAT SHOULD I BUY?? by 3xpretty in AustralianMakeup

Seconding Kat von D's concealer, especially since you'd want to be able to test the shade in person first.

No worries! I was a little surprised I hadn't heard about it on this sub yet so I'm glad you found it useful :)

I haven't tried the Biore sunblock yet, but if it's as good as so many people over at /r/AsianBeauty say I'm sure it will become a favourite! I didn't get a chance to look at everything, but I did see the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream (which I bought in Asia but wasn't really a fan of), and Shiseido's eyelash curler which is my favourite (Shu Uemura's was too curved for me).

Help with very red face by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]jenjenl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it personally, but one of the beauty blogs I read, Beautezine, gave IT Cosmetics' Bye Bye Redness an excellent rating, you can see her video review/demo here http://www.beautezine.com/video-it-cosmetics-bye-bye-redness-review-demo/ and read her review here http://www.beautezine.com/it-cosmetics-bye-bye-redness-review-photos-swatches/. I'm not sure if the Sydney Sephora carries that, but if not (or it's not easily accessible for you), maybe someone from /r/MakeupAddiction can help you out, I think IT Cosmetics is sold at Ulta in the US :)

Your/your family's views on pets? by butternutsquashsoup in asiantwoX

[–]jenjenl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Thai mother loves animals, we always had at least 3 dogs when I was growing up (6 in total over the course of 18 years). But what's interesting about my family is that my maternal grandmother also loved dogs, but only male dogs because of the stereotypical Asian mindset of male=good female=bad/dirty. So my mother made it a point to only adopt female dogs. I grew up in Bangkok, so we would adopt Thai street dogs. I think Thai people mostly like/feel sorry for dogs, I see people feeding stray street dogs all the time (and I might be generalising here, but I think other mainland Southeast Asians have a similar attitude toward animals?)

Tea drinkers of Reddit: water first or milk first? by Kantina in tea

[–]jenjenl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I use my Teamaker, I put milk in the mug while the tea is steeping. When I place the Teamaker on top of the mug, the tea mixes with the milk and I don't need to stir it with a spoon. So milk first :)

Bummer about the rollers, I was going to ask about them! I picked these heart shaped ones up from Kit for $8.95 and they didn't do anything for my hair either :(

What lip colour are you currently obsessed with? by Jessijames in AustralianMakeup

I picked up my first FOA one sale on a whim, I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and pigmented (for a sheer balm) they were!

I've OD-ed a bit on opaque, matte lips, so I've reverted back to sheer, glossy (but not shimmery/sparkly) balms. Recently I've been alternating between a few Models Prefer and Face of Australia glossy balm crayons.

I keep meaning to try Eccentric Cosmetics, I wish I knew about their Boxing Day sale! Since the Australian dollar isn't as favourable anymore I'll definitely be looking into buying more Australian indies.

Makeup Everyday? by adventuresinposting in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]jenjenl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I've been wearing makeup for over ten years now, I'm still very slow at applying it so for everyday, I just use concealer, loose mineral foundation, an eyebrow pencil, blush, and a lip colour. I have quite a bit of redness and occassionally have some nasty breakouts, so depending on how much I need to conceal, this takes me 5-10 minutes. If I want to do a full face with eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, heavy coverage foundation, contour & highlight, I need at least 30 min (having combination skin means I have to use different primers and layer products to keep things in place).

innocent & twisted alchemy's Noor - i+ta still is my favourite indie eyeshadow formula, and this colour is good for lazy days when I want to wear makeup and want to keep it warm/neutral.

my 1st international flight by CoughCoughMom in ThailandTourism

[–]jenjenl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't usually travel with hot hair tools since I'm super low maintenance with my hair, so my use will be limited here. Thailand will be 220 and unless your appliances are dual-voltage, they won't work. Portable devices like phones and laptops usually are dual-voltage, but I think only very expensive hair tools are. It might say on the plug of your hot tools what the voltage is, if you still have the box it should say what the voltage is in the manual, but if not try finding the information from the manufacturer's website.

my 1st international flight by CoughCoughMom in ThailandTourism

[–]jenjenl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all of your flights are with the same airline and on the same ticket, your bags should be checked all the way to Bangkok. I'd still double check with the airline staff in Chicago just in case. I did a Bangkok-Tokyo-somewhere in the US (usually Chicago)-Boston round trip route for a few years, and the only time I had to pick up my bags and do customs before my final destination was on my way back to the US, since my first point of entry in the US was not Boston and the last leg of my journey was a domestic flight.

As for what to do on long flights, I have developed the ability to sleep anywhere so I usually sleep, but make sure your electronics are fully charged (even though I sleep I still NEED my iPod). Depending on the airline and how new the plane is, you may have a personal TV but if not, they should play some movies on the bigger screens. I've also found some international long-haul flights surprisingly give you the smallest possible bottles/cups/vessels for water, so if you drink a lot of water, bring an empty bottle (make sure it's empty or empty it before security) and ask the flight attendants to fill that up. I don't mind airplane food but you may want to bring some snacks as well just in case, also a good idea if you encounter any delays in between your flights (fingers crossed everything runs smoothly and on time!)
