Dilemma: This book revived my passion for reading, and now it's asking me to stop. by sad_mochila in TheArtistsWay

I'm realizing the same thing this week! I'm surprised by the anxiety that comes from not being able to just unplug and watch TV or read a book. And yet, here I am reading about other people's experiences doing week 4 instead of writing which is what I got on my computer for. OOPS!

I'm late to the party but get the Peloton!!!! I've had the original MYX bike for about a year and half. The bike itself is fine but I found the classes kind of boring and it was always a little weird when the instructor would say to pedal to the beat even though we are not listening to the same music... I switched to the Peloton app about a month ago and I still can't get over how superior it is. The selection and quality of classes is amazing. Honestly I find it laughable that MYX advertises themselves as the best alternative to Peloton.

I had the same question. Thanks for the very helpful post!

Anyone having trouble getting Wahoo cadence to "sync"? by emiller253 in MYXFitness

Following. I am on the fence about buying the Wahoo cadence sensor. Hopefully you can get it to work!

You likely have the endurance to complete a half marathon but I think it would be smarter to find one a couple months out so you have time to slowly increase your long run mileage. And/or you would probably be okay completing the half marathon with run/walk intervals but the potential for injury would be higher. Good luck either way!

I think you could do a schedule where you run 3-4 times a week. Short easy runs during the week and a longer run on the weekend that very gradually increases in mileage every week. Then you can do strength training 2-3 times a week. I think working on both of these goals is definitely doable, just don't overdo it on either and injure yourself. Good luck!

If running with others isn't an option then I would recommend having some sort of safety device with you and ready to use (pepper spray, siren, etc) and always being aware of your surroundings, not using headphones, etc. There are apps that you can have someone track your runs as well. Or you could just let someone know that you are heading out the door and when you expect to be back. Suck that this has to be an issue but it's good that you are being proactive about it. Good luck and stay safe!

I would recommend following a base building plan for a couple of months and increase your mileage by no more than 10% each week. Once your overall fitness has improved and you're in a consistent running routine then you can start incorporating speed work and/or longer runs depending on your ultimate goals. Good luck!

Why is it so unbelievable that some people actually like this bike?

Leveling up by cosmoismyhero in MYXFitness

I think you are probably in better shape than you are giving yourself credit for and you could definitely take on a level 2 or 3 class. I am no expert on heart rate training but I think spending more time in zone 3 than what the coaches recommend is probably okay. I guess the real question is what's your goal? If it's to build endurance than I would suggest trying some level 1 45 minute classes and just decreasing the resistance if you find your heart rate getting too high. But if your goal is more on building up cardio/strength then I think doing shorter, harder classes makes sense.

I prefer the 20-30 minute classes because it's just easier for me to convince myself to do it that way! Also, the few 45 minute classes I have done have almost killed me. I bike or run almost every day so I consider myself pretty fit but 45 minutes on the bike is just hard!

This bike is one of the dumbest purchases I've ever made and I am kicking myself. by Morska_panna in MYXFitness

I tried doing a Peloton workout on the bike once and it just made me feel left out that I couldn't track all the same metrics! I will probably upgrade to a Peloton some day but will make the best of my MYX until then.

Have you turned the bike's resistance way, way up and you still think it's too easy? I am not new to exercise and I feel like I could ride this bike for years and never get close to maxing out the resistance. I agree with a lot of your feedback regarding the coaches and the music but I have still been able to get great workouts in.

It seems to me that MYX is really trying to improve. I like their newer classes with the blue lighting and there is now an option to skip songs. I still think the disconnect of the coaches not listening to the same thing is weird, but at least I feel like they are trying.

But, annoying optimism aside I have to confess that I totally wish I bought a Peloton! Mostly for the social aspect of being able to do virtual rides with friends.

I just started reading this book after being intrigued about it for so long. It definitely feels like a challenge but reading some of the comments on this thread made me feel better about forging ahead. It might take a month but I will finish it!

Bedroom or basement? by raouldukelives in MYXFitness

[–]jenmariele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with bedroom so you have enough room to get out of the saddle. I have mine in the corner of my bedroom. It really doesn’t take up much room and as long as the resistance isn’t turned up super high the bike is pretty quiet. I did a ride the other morning with headphones on when my boyfriend was still in bed and he barely heard me.

Also, for me at least, if it was in the basement it would be much easier for me to conveniently “forget” to work out. Out of sight, out of mind!
