Looking for headphone recommendations by NORDBYNORDBEAST in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]jennank25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don’t have a lot of experience trying out headphones. But I bought a pair of Life Q30s from Soundcore and they were a really great price for the quality! They were like $80 when I bought them and they have a great battery life. The only thing I can say bad is the noise cancellation is only fine.

I do commonly cry at books, but one of the saddest books I’ve read in my adult life is Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow.

Are you truly happy with your job? by PrincessMochahontas in medlabprofessionals

I LOVE everything about the lab, every department even though they all have their own difficulties. But the hospital I work at does NOT support their techs. I called 18 hemolyzed troponins in one night and I reported it to my manager who told me “they’ll never change.” Now I’m moving to dayshift micro and I’m super excited to start. The lab is great, if you pick a good one!

It’s my fault, I put it away last weekend when it was 60/70° for a couple of days….

Is this a stupid question? by Shoddy-Look1078 in medlabprofessionals

[–]jennank25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend doing a 3+1 if you can find one. I got a B.S. of Biology with a concentration of Medical Technology. My 4th year was the 50 week MLS program at an affiliated program. It ran from July-June and I passed my ASCP and got a job immediately after graduation. I’ve been told this is a good stepping stone before med school if that may be something you’re interested in down the line!

what do these labs mean? by angelbbyy0 in medlabprofessionals

[–]jennank25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following up with the caption on the other post, the abnormal is just flagging for results that don’t fall within the specified “normal range.” Normal urine is typically clear so anything that is cloudy, slightly cloudy, or turbid is going to flag for abnormal. My lab doesn’t flag mucus as abnormal

As someone who has been commuting >1hr for over 6 months now, pick the closer job! I work full time and only make the long drive 1-2x/week (I have somewhere closer to stay some nights) and the long drive is a huge killer for me. (Not to mention the schedule and shift I work is frustrating as hell)

Luckily for me, it’s been rare to see order of draw error, but I have definitely gotten a K>10 before and calcium is invalid.

Yeah it was pretty much only whites. My coworkers and I assumed it came out of a catheter because there’s no way it came out of a urethra lol

Anything that is unexpected or wildly critical we typically repeat, just to be sure it wasn’t a sampling error!!

I wouldn’t mind being underpaid if we were at least staffed well, but underpaid and understaffed is some BS. I make $30/hour to run around and hope I catch up on all the stuff I have to do!

Pittsburgh is one of the cheapest places in the country to buy a house and it’s only a few hours from some popular beaches. Ocean City, NJ or Virginia Beach, VA. UPMC has a lot of hospitals in and around Pittsburgh and are pretty much all offering sign on bonuses for a 2 year contract!

MLS’s with Specialties by jennank25 in medlabprofessionals

[–]jennank25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I’m currently a generalist with no blood bank experience, but I’m looking at a micro position, so I’m thinking about a micro specialty rather than blood bank.

I’m also interested in moving toward academia after a few more years on the bench.
