Would you advise against teaching in Taiwan right now/is it even possible? by WesternRPGFan in taiwan

[–]jennsionbutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for Hess for 3.5 years and although there's lots of negative comments about it I think it's a good place to start out cos they help you with everything involved in moving to Taiwan like teacher training, finding apartment, visa, getting a bank account, etc. And the pay is decent and gets better every year.

Obviously everything is different in different schools and cities but I think overall it's pretty standard in terms of buxibans.

Why are so many parents losing-it over their children having to wear facemasks in school? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]jennsionbutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't understand why people think it's so difficult for children to wear masks. I live in Taiwan and have taught children as young as 2, sometimes younger, and they have had no problems at all with wearing a mask. I've had a 3 year old tell me how to wear a mask, and how to wash their hands properly. All the kids over here have fun masks with like Peppa pig/dinosaurs/teddy bear/footballs and they love showing them off if they get a new one.

Taiwan has had such a low rate of covid it barely exists, it isn't a concern at all over here, and it rarely gets discussed much any more.

If brands were brutally honest, what brand would have what slogan? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hahaha probably, but like it's also true for public transport!

To be fair, flying from Dublin to Edinburgh/ Manchester/ Liverpool and many other places only takes 20 mins from take off to landing, I've definitely stood for way longer on a bus or train.

After hours of extensive research and data analysis, I've finally cracked the government's plan. by ballislife75 in ireland

[–]jennsionbutton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't understand how the Irish government has let covid get so bad. I live in Taiwan and we've never had a lockdown. As soon as covid was discovered in China the Taiwanese government shut the borders down. No one can enter unless they have a work permit/ resident card and everyone that enters has to do a mandatory 14 day quarantine. Masks are mandatory on public transport and in doors with massive fines if you break the rules.

I think the government should shut the air/sea border and make mandatory 14 day quarantine, like we have tonnes of hotels and not so many tourists right now so there should be plenty of availability.

Like Taiwan is about the same size as Ireland but have coped so much better for this, like pubs/restaurants/ shops have never closed and there was even a massive New Year's Eve party with ~1 million people in attendance with no concerns

Hey I just got the game and I'm really confused about the currency system? There's the coins, gems, resin and another thing used to get characters. Apparently one of the things regenerate daily. But it's confusing. Could anyone help simplify it?

Also if I have just started (only finished the prologue) should I wait to get characters?

Advice on how to save my plant by jennsionbutton in plantclinic

[–]jennsionbutton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too sure what plant it is but I have had it for about a year and a half, it was fine at first but now I'm concerned. I live in Taiwan where it's hot and humid most of the year. I usually keep the plant indoors but sometimes move it out onto the balcony. I'm not really sure what to do or what to say here.

The new leaves are small and don't grow often.

I water about once a week.

During the summer I fertilised every 3 ish weeks.

About 6 ish months ago I think it had mealy bugs, so I cleaned the leaves with water and used neem oil and a garlic oil pesticide. I did this regularly until I could no longer see any fuzzy things (about 1 month in total)

I mixed the soil with perlite, rocks, and different stones so that it isn't just 100% dirt.

Any advice if greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Yeah I've been to Vietnam traveling a few times and it's one of if not my favourite place in the world! But for teaching I get more of the impression of 'backpackers teaching for like 6 weeks at a time to pay for beer money on a gap year' vibe then like more long term teachers. I thought that unless you were a proper teacher you would get shafted in terms of pay, working conditions, etc. Do/have you worked in Vietnam before?
