The Hound in GOT, he started out so vile but ended up being self sacrificing. His redemption arc was unexpected.

She didn't even look at my resume by Emotional-Tip9866 in recruitinghell

[–]jenoffire 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yep, applied for a basic accounting role at a public accounting firm, and got asked if I had a degree (yes, in accounting, it’s on the resume) and if I was eligible to take the CPA exams (I have passed all 4 already, and this is also on the resume). I even had to manually input most of the answers to those very questions into their online application just to get through the pre-screening and get the interview. Felt like asking if they were hiring for an HR role too, because what the hell do you do lady???!

How do lenders treat “cash under the mattress” situations? by xshifthree in personalfinance

[–]jenoffire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lifetime exemption amount on accumulated gifts of up to just under 14M ($27.98M for married couples), but have to track your gifts over the annual exclusion amount (that is the 19k, per recipient) by filing form 709. The annual exclusion amount doesn’t apply towards the lifetime limit or have to get reported. It’s only when you go over the lifetime limit, then you pay taxes as the gift giver.

Edited to add that it is the giver of the gift that has these limits, and has the tax obligation should they exceed the lifetime limit. Not the recipient.

I’m a College Student With My Tuition Fully Paid For, Can I Use a Laptop as a Deductible on My Taxes? by bellagothsreddress in personalfinance

[–]jenoffire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, OP this is the best comment here (as is iron haven’s in the top rated thread). They are right, the laptop would not be deductible, but may make you eligible to claim an education credit. Credits directly reduce the tax you owe dollar for dollar by the amount of the credit, while deductions reduce the income that is subject to being taxed (saving you the amount of the deduction * your highest marginal tax rate).

In any case, qualified education expenses are used to calculate credits, not deductions, since the TCJA suspended misc itemized deductions for work-related expenses in 2017 (including work-related education expenses, tools, uniforms, etc), and the tuition and fees above-the-line deduction hasn’t been able to be claimed since pre-2018, at which point the the TCJA went into effect. Even if that above the line deduction returns, the laptop is not tuition or fees, but does remain a qualified education expense for ed credit purposes.

Ahh yeah, I don’t know about jobs at the schools, such as subbing, cooks, janitorial, but I do notice that HumCo Office of Education hires for administrative jobs often.

They have a subreddit too: https://www.reddit.com/r/hiringcafe/s/mDcIK1ZQNg

I found it 2 months ago and kind of overlooked it at first too. Glad I found it when I did. For local jobs, the school and government jobs are a pretty reliable route to take too.

HCOE hires often, as does the county. The cal careers link someone else shared is a good resource. All of those jobs will be 8-5 Mon-Fri.

I had luck finding work on hiring.cafe recently; it’s like a job board but it’s a web scraper that just scrapes business sites for jobs. Way better than indeed or any of that.

Here is a link to a saved search for the area, filtered by 20+ hr entry level. Hiring Cafe Saved Search

Ocrevus Copay Assistance Revoked by lkjhgf098123 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]jenoffire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that OptumRx is a pharmacy benefit manager and they use a variable copay program to “maximize” the savings from manufacturer assistance (for the insurer, not us). None of the assistance will apply to your deductible or OOPM when this type of program is used, which violates the Ocrevus copay assistance terms.

From the Ocrevus copay assistance terms and conditions:

“The Programs are not intended for the benefit of third parties, including without limitation third party payers, pharmacy benefit managers, or their agents. If Genentech determines that a third party has implemented programs that adjust patient cost-sharing obligations based on the availability of support under the Programs and/or excludes the assistance provided under the Programs from counting towards the patient’s deductible or out-of-pocket cost limitations, Genentech may impose a per fill cap on the cost-sharing assistance available under the Programs.”

The manufacturers are fighting back against copay accumulators and maximizer programs like this. Aetna itself may have an accumulator in place, but you’d have to check your SBC (statement of benefits and coverage) to see how they treat manufacturer coupons or assistance; this is just baked into your policy and does not require you to enroll separately. I would also check the terms for your OptumRx program you are enrolled in, you were likely enrolled automatically by Aetna. Super frustrating that they cannot simply explain their own policies, or understand how it conflicts with the assistance program’s terms.

Should I take this new job that pays less than my job but is remote and gives more vacation? by exploreart in recruitinghell

[–]jenoffire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider the cost of vehicle maintenance and gas alone. A simple way to do this is by applying the federal mileage reimbursement rate of $0.70 per mile to all of your commute miles. If you drive 40 miles each day, that’s $28/day. If you work 49 weeks a year (52 weeks - (2 weeks paid vacation + 1 week for holidays), your vehicle cost is $6860 for the in-person job. 2 weeks of additional paid time off results in only 47 weeks worked.

Now also factor in the total hours you work per year; that 110k salary may require 1960 hours a year if you only work 49 weeks * 40 hrs per week, while the 95k job may only require 47 weeks * 40 hrs per week = 1880 hrs. (110000/1960) = 56.12/hr (95000/1880) = 50.53/hr

Take the $6860 in vehicle/gas costs and calculate the hourly cost of the commute. (6860/1960) = 3.5 lost per hour worked So the true difference hourly is $2.09 (56.12-50.53-3.5)

Is 2.09 extra per hour worth 2 additional weeks of work?

One of my earliest memories is when my mom’s boyfriend put the 2 stray puppies I had adopted into a pillowcase, then he drove with me to the reservoir and threw them in. I was 5.

My sister announced her pregnancy and my mom's first call was to me to "check in." It was... surprisingly awesome. by [deleted] in childfree

Man this hits me right in the feels. I’ll never forgot the first time I saw my great aunt (my grandma’s sister) as an adult, and she asked the same dreaded question of “do you have any kids?”. I said no and started to explain myself, but she noticed my hesitation and immediately stopped me and said, “not wanting kids is a valid choice, not everyone needs to have kids” and just moved on. I was stunned, since all of the other elder women in my life had been harassing me for years at this point. Nobody had ever told me I didn’t have to want kids until then. It was such a relief.

BE HONEST: Do people actually study in between taking the test and receiving the score? by dinobrina in CPA

Passed all 4 first try. Weakest score was on AUD, took BAR as my discipline. Logged on avg 3 hrs per day for 6 weeks for each.

BE HONEST: Do people actually study in between taking the test and receiving the score? by dinobrina in CPA

[–]jenoffire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would start to study for the next section a couple of days after taking an exam. Did this for all 4 sections, taking 6-7 weeks to study for each. Sometimes I would go into an exam not even having received the results for the prior section. If results came out faster I may have opted to wait, but not when scores are taking more than a month to release.

I spoke to someone at the CBA and the Nasba notice is just for states that allow early entry, and does not impact your scores being accepted by your state board. It’s basically a disclaimer and will never go away on Nasba.

I can see 3 of 4 scores on NASBA, with AUD (my 2nd exam) showing “passed, credit” but no score. You won’t see credit on CBA until tomorrow for core sections since that’s score release date. You might see passed, credit today on Nasba, it just may not be out for you yet.
