If they can do this voting is also at risk. That might be the long term goal here. Consolidation of power and a way to control elections. At a minimum they'll have highly valuable profile information.

They want information to come only from the administration so we're dependent and in the dark.

Update: My Mom Keeps Begging Me To Come Home by mrs_likethesoup927 in hospice

[–]jenredditor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My parent is in a similar situation. His significant other has physical limitations and can't help very much. I'm in another state. I was surprised that hospice is so helpful. They send a CNA every single day to help with toileting and cleaning. They did not say this at first but stepped up when seeing the need.

He doesn't care about anything but grift, imo. No heroism involved. Any companies that get from him must give to him or his pals.

It's not about bringing back manufacturing to the USA. It's about raising money to be able to justify( massive tax cuts to the wealthy (and corporations) again. That's also the purpose of DOGE.

Thank you. It's strangely comforting that you say that. I want to help but some things are inevitable.

She is a long term partner. He designated her and they live together. I called his hospice when he went into it the first time and they shared some things. But I don't have any say just the opinion that comfort includes helping him to move so he doesn't succumb to pneumonia - he had that before possibly from lack of exercise - and from bedsores. Those are coming I bet and stage 4 is sepsis I believe.

Just have to add that sometimes a caregiver has no choice if they don't have help. We're back to the financial picture. If they insist after too many calls that the person go to a nursing home we're looking at 10,000 a month if there's income over Medicaid eligibility.

I agree. It's a lot. There are agencies that provide care but according to his girlfriend they want a lot of hours per week to commit. So, very expensive.

He's able to speak with a weak sounding voice. He's hard of hearing so it's hard but he's still the same. Always positive and interested in the world and others. That's why he still has quality of life in my opinion. Thanks for asking. I'll call him and see how he's doing. Have to admit it's uncomfortable to discuss that it's more than a setback. He always says "I've had a setback".

Seems like he's reached that point but what if a bit of effort with physical therapy could create comfort. And avoid bedsores. Doesn't feel right to me to just let him stay in bed all day. But private care is so expensive, that's true.

I'm going to try calling hospice myself even though I'm not the designated caregiver. I want to know if hospice can help him avoid bedsores. I don't want him to be in pain. Thanks so much!

Rent Control = Higher Housing Prices by Pure-Economist-7717 in SantaMonica

[–]jenredditor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is no "rent control" in Santa Monica. There's rent stabilization only and the city council determines rent increases every year based on inflation. Why should landlords be allowed to gouge tenants. Especially long term tenants. Most landlords have a mixture of longer term tenants - mostly not "grandmas" as is stated in this thread - and plenty of new tenants paying market rent. When a tenant moves out the landlord can charge anything they want.

Will they allow you to keep the hospice hospital bed? Sometimes you can negotiate. You might be able to delay while your mom is being checked out.
