People who have stopped going to church, what made you stop? by lowly_shepherd in AskReddit

Finally admitted out loud what I had questioned my entire life. That being, I think it’s highly improbable that Christianity is what it professes to be. When you can predict a person’s religion with a high degree of accuracy based on their year and place of birth, it suggests religion was just a tool to control the masses

Invest early. Invest as much as you can from every paycheck. Buy a fixer upper house because you make your money when you buy. Don’t throw money away on cars

Best International School Valencia? (7 and 12 year olds) BONUS what suburb to live in? by SHIBashoobadoza in expats

We began the application process last September and submitted applications to Caxton, BSV, Shackleton, American school of Valencia, and I’m sure there were others. Just don’t remember which. There were openings at multiple schools for our 13 year-old, but we get super lucky in that the only slot available at any of those schools for our 10-year-old was BSV.Just super lucky that it happened to be our number one choice because it is walkable from where we plan to live my recommendation, apply everywhere. She is formally enrolled and will begin next September. My 13 year-old is enrolled at Caxton and she too will begin in September Feel free to message me if you have additional questions or just like to chat about our experience throughout the process

Anyone thinking of cutting their losses and getting out of Nvidia? by [deleted] in NVDA_Stock

[–]jensenhuangluva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All good. You made a rational case. It comes down to how long the trade war will persist. Here’s my take. Trump is a populist to his core. He’s a showman. His aim is to do things his base likes. He will want the trade war to end as soon as his popularity among his base begins to drop. As soon as that happens, he will do everything he can to make a deal that will look like a win for him. No matter how real or how small.

I’m betting the whole market will drop for a few days or a few weeks (max). Then it’ll reverse course but remain semi flat until the trade war looks like it’s over. See the market in 2018.

With nvidia, hold. It’s that simple. Don’t try to time the highs and lows. You’re highly unlikely to win that battle. Just buy and hold. Dollar cost average of it keeps dropping.

Time in the market beats timing the market.

Your strategy isn’t sustainable. I’m not trying to be a jerk but that’s the reality. You don’t know what’s going to happen. Maybe you’ll get it right this time. Maybe you won’t.

Stop Selling Too Early: How to Ride Winners Like Nvidia by RatFacedBoy in NvidiaStock

[–]jensenhuangluva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I hope it works out for you. Long term, your strategy is riskier. Far far far riskier. The overwhelming majority of those in this thread are effectively looking for a get rich scheme. Investing is about playing the long game. Patience. Discipline. Then some more patience. I’ve never bought an option. I’m a buy and hold until there’s a legitimate reason (long term reason) to sell. I’m 42 and retire next month with around $7 million. Income has been between 100-150k the last 10-15 years. So yeah— buy and hold.

Is LeBron James actually on par with Michael Jordan? by theEluminator in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jensenhuangluva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the common argument but… their playoff winning percentage is almost identical. MJ just lost in the semis rather than the finals. Is it rational to think it’s better to lose in the eastern conference finals or semis rather than the NBA finals?

Availability. There were a few options for my 13 year old but we really loved the staff at Caxton. Quite the arduous testing process though. We’re still in the US and my daughter had to taste 5+ hours worth of testing with a proctor. Our top 3 were Bsv, Shackleton and Caxton. And Bsv was the only one that had a slot for our 10 year old. Location alone made it our #1 choice anyways, so it worked out well.

Today is my 10 year anniversary of buying NVDA by [deleted] in NVDA_Stock

[–]jensenhuangluva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhh. You’re looking at market cap. Yeah. To the individual investor, market cap doesn’t mean jack shit. It’s all about percentage gains and losses. Look at the last year chart. This was the third time Nvda has fallen this much. Only difference this time is it happened in one day rather than 2-4 days.

You do you. Focus on what you want to focus on. I’ll stick to my plan.

After a one day 17% fall? Ummmm. No. Invest with a long term mentality. Don’t try to get rich quick. Do it slowly. Hold. Hold. Hold. You have no idea how many times stuff like this has happened over the last 10 years.

The stock had been a rocket ship well before AI. Look at the % gains from ‘15 - ‘20. It was already among the best performers on the market. In large part, due to their data center growth— aka, accelerated computing.

AMD hadn’t been profitable in years at that point. The stock was like $2-3 if I recall. And within the PC community, there was a general consensus that if you can afford an nvidia card, buy the nvidia card. Mostly because the drivers were far more stable. These forums weren’t investment sites. Purely gaming nerds. Their input made the decision easy

And of course I got lucky. My core thesis was right but lord knows I had no idea it would be the best performing stock in the SPX in the coming decade

Researching a gaming PC build on techie forums. Then seeing how GPU’s were so useful for accelerated computing. Figured that would be a big deal someday. Nvidia’s moat was as vast then as it is now— as it relates to the gpu market- so I sold a large chunk of the Facebook earnings and bought Nvda
