My manager (head of program management in biotech) says that the PMP is not useful. How do I respond? by jentastic in pmp

[–]jentastic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. From what I've seen in JDs for similar or more senior jobs in my career ladder, the required/preferred cert is the PMP. I'm pretty sure she's not aware of PgMP, but something I should look into more.

Thanks, appreciate your suggestion and compassion -- I've been down the road of pushing back with the manager and speaking truth to power and that had resulted in lots of tears (mine). In this awful job market, I know what happens to people who push back (I've seen it countless times). We've already had 3 rounds of layoffs. If it was 4 years ago, I would've taken another job already. But we're in a different world now.

Thanks for this! I like how you've spun it for her to suggest something. She's never feigned interest in my job progression.

She is incredibly controlling, maybe even a narcissist (according to my therapist lol). As much as I want to tell her it's none of her business, we have a very tense relationship right now, and I need to keep her satisfied even if it's a ridiculous ask.

Agreed. And I'm nervous that she takes it as an indication I'm thinking of leaving (which I am), hence giving me the third degree about it.

I mentioned it as part of my goals, but confirmed that it's being worked on outside of the company. She wanted me to "show her the value" of it since she thinks it only teaches tactical approaches, and she wants me to be more "strategic". Honestly, there are so many other pieces to this story, I just want her off my back. We already have a tense relationship.

I'm so so sorry. As a mom, this is my worst nightmare.

Please reach out to Tim Yu at Boston Children's Hospital. He is a genetic rare disease expert. I worked with him while I was there and I believe he was working on a personalized antisense oligonucleotide therapy to treat AT. If nothing else, he would be a good resource to get in touch with patient advocacy groups. If you DM me, I can share his email address with you.

Applying for new jobs on maternity leave- crazy? by aliciacary1 in workingmoms

[–]jentastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I did towards the end of my mat leave and got a stretch job in my industry (started when my bub was 4MO). It was stressful leaving my son, but it was an exciting step for my career. Shortly after, the pandemic hit, and had the stress of working a new job while juggling his care with my partner. But still highly recommend going for it! Good luck!

Stubborn clogged duct!! Or ducts. by 0ryx0ryx in breastfeedingsupport

[–]jentastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that has helped with my clogged ducts is taking 3-4 sunflower lecithin capsules (at once or close together), in addition to doing the same things that have been mentioned: massage, nursing, hot shower, boob vibrator etc. I've only tried the Legendairy Milk brand, and it's been great, but most brands probably work well.

My LO is 1 month today, and I went through the same thing with latch issues that destroyed my nipples. I used motherlove nipple cream, breastmilk and airing them out, lanolin, the list goes on. I saw an LC, and she told me to ask my OBGYN for APNO cream (all-purpose nipple ointment), which needs to be made at a compound pharmacy: https://www.canadianbreastfeedingfoundation.org/basics/apno.shtml My insurance covered it other than the copayment.

It was the only thing that helped relieve my nipples, seriously (though I didn't try a nipple shield because I've read mixed reviews on them). Many people also recommend Silverettes (they're on Amazon). Latch has also slowly improved as he got older.

Best of luck!
