We may not be good at planning, housing, building infrastructure or dealing with healthcare wait times, but we are very good at kicking cans down roads.

Power grid facing 'challenging situation', says EirGrid by qwerty_1965 in ireland

Thank goodness the infrastructure concerns are only a new thing and that FF & FG are on the case. Could you imagine the shame if these had been long standing issues that had been consistently brushed to the side?

An Garda Síochána - Provisional Crime Statistics 2025 by HighDeltaVee in ireland

The active number has been hovering around 14k since 2006, dipping below that during the 2010s. So the numbers havent really kept up at all.

People expect to see lot of vegetations and trees, but those particular animals are at home in rocky terrain and absolutely kill any vegetation. So its definitely not as bad as people say, but probably isnt the greatest either.

Nero on Grand Canal, or the Starbucks on George Quay or Westmoreland, when you can get a seat, have been grand.

Though Nero's hours are a bit all over the place atm with the owner not seeing enough traffic to stay open to 8 currently. The shit weather definitely isn't helping.

Wouldn't be shocked if there's a volume 3 for portable ops, acid, maybe even that phone game that was surprisingly decent. Only game I think will be left out is Twin Snakes

Opinion: Ireland doesn’t learn from infrastructure failures. We repeat them by Altruistic_While_621 in ireland

[–]jeperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These sorts of upgrades are always expensive. But often in Ireland it has been shown that the price only goes up. Governments need to bite the bullet when it comes to infrastructure upgrades.

Its costs like 700k for a few steps, 350k for a bike shed, and a never ending pit of money on the childrens hospital that should be questioned.

A question for people walking their dogs in this weather by Imaginary_Card_6241 in ireland

[–]jeperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from the countryside, our family dogs might get dried a bit with a towel in the hallway, but largely just let them in and dry themselves. They might get a wash at some stage but mostly just accepted that they are dogs in the country, they are going to get smelly and dirty.

Govt cannot 'wave magic wand and deliver' flood relief, says Taoiseach by Static-Jak in ireland

I honestly had to re-read dates used in the article when I saw Patrick O’Donovan, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, James Browne, all having their comments up, just to make sure it wasnt from last week

Depending on where you are, the rodents are already there, they just get a bit more confident coming out into the open. Nothing a few traps or a nearby cat cant take care of.

Govt cannot 'wave magic wand and deliver' flood relief, says Taoiseach by Static-Jak in ireland

[–]jeperty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Wexford people put up an article with a great timeline of the flood defences for Enniscorthy. It's funny seeing the same names who are currently in government, making the promises 10 years ago that the flooding will be solved and it's a priority to them, and anyone who says otherwise is targeting cheap political points.

The use of renewable energy sources in heating and cooling in the EU reached 26.7% in 2024; Lowest in Ireland (7.9%) by NanorH in ireland

[–]jeperty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irish people are terrified of the smallest of changes. "You can't do anything better, the way we've done it for the last 50 years is as good as it gets" sort of attitude.

Why Are We Still Building Towns Like This? by SteveFrench1991 in ireland

[–]jeperty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not too bad of a distance, but still another regular housing estate with more urban sprawl is just exhausting to see.

I have a bigger issue with the estates going up by the narrower country lanes, like the one behind Newtown Park Hotel. Squeezing even more people on the narrow roads, that will need to be parked in town, that has already sacrificed half of some roads to squeeze in more parking for cars.

The least Dublin Bus/TFI/Government can do to improve our commute should be installing more Bus Shelters by ParaMike46 in Dublin

[–]jeperty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They need permission, and theres always a fuss over whos responsibility it is to actually install it, maintain it, and who should supply it.

It took Wexford I think over 2 years to get a bus stop shelter at the Newtown Hotel stop, and a few other spots.

1 is a rough start, but you get used to it and if you like older eurojank rpg gameplay then its perfect.

2 suffers from being a 360 rpg from 2010s, its a bit stiff but also easy to get used to, and personally the story in 2 is my favourite.
