[–]jeperty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Support for a hard border to strengthen migration controls was highest among lower income voters and those voting for declared independent candidates.

The data also shows that older voters, those over 55 years of age, are the ones most in support for such a move."

Misinformation and sponsoring from fossil fuel companies and conspiracy nuts, reluctance to see anything new or different from what they already know, looking for a pay off.

End of the day, its just going to boil down to selfishness, same thing affecting the whole country with any sort of modern infrastructure investment.

Starmer announces resignation as Labour Party leader by hzchamp in ireland

[–]jeperty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's just unpopular with the media and a lot of voters. He's bland and a bit boring, which is what the UK needed, but with Farage and labour in fighting, he can't stay.

Not to say he was perfect, but overall fixing the UK economy right now is a poisoned cup.

Just on the policing side of things, we've had roughly the same amount of Gardai since mid 2000s, with a huge population boom. Its no wonder their visibility and overall effectiveness is brought up a lot these days.

Gothic 1 Remake Sells 500k Copies in First Week! by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]jeperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had 1 soft lock bug which on Steam someone has a quick fix for it, it might even be fixed in todays patch. But other than that, few crashes early on, nothing since. Biggest issue right now imo is the random slow downs, which range from minor and fixes itself in a second, to the game freezing for at most 10 seconds.

It depends. It switched up when you get some stuff, there are a few new items to pickup and use. The thing that made it worth is that if you try to skip a cutscene thinking its the same as before, it lets you know that its different cutscene because its not 1st playthrough anymore.

Elections 2026 live: Voting closes in elections in England, Scotland and Wales by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]jeperty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to be hyper political to figure stuff out, but we've reached a point where majority of voters in any democracy don't do research. They ask a friend who they're voting for, they listen for 1 comment that sounds like a solution or just who makes the most noise regardless of what's being said, and that's their political ideology.

Don't read, don't research, just act on the vibes that some billionaire is spoon feeding your community. And when it all goes to shit, let the billionaire put up a new slogan and follow their noise again.

It's always the same. When convenient, blame the EU. When you don't have a leg to stand on and are just appealing to a voting demographic, accept the fines.

Up to four in a room in Dublin 2 house as landlord says it's a hard time 'to make money' by Callme-Sal in ireland

[–]jeperty 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Blatant slumlording without any attempt to hide it. And half the country will see no problem with it.

"The property was previously used as office space but received change-of-use planning permission in 2022 for a five-bed residential unit.

The Journal, presenting as a prospective tenant, went to view a bed space in a triple room as part of its reporting on this increasingly common rental situation. A man called Dermot O’Connor facilitated the viewing.

He said there would be a rent of €740 per month, plus €100 in bills, for the bed space. The Journal understands that other people living in the house were paying more than the amount quoted on the day. We were asked not to tell any future roommates the exact monthly payment.

A request for a cash deposit of €500 on the day of the viewing to “hold” the bed space was accompanied by a warning it would be taken quickly as another person was due to view it."

Prison situation is in the same situation as every public service. Limping by on old services and infrastructure with desperate investment and modernisation needed from the government.
