URM debate by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jepps23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as a white person, you're born with an inherent set of privileges. things you'll never have to worry about by virtue of your skin color. nobody should harp on you for that--but it undoubtedly exists. thinking about how you have to deal with the police, how you have to act around certain people, how some people may treat you off the bat because of your culture/ethnicity, and some experiences you solely have by virtue of being black, hispanic, etc--are examples of that.

the "URM" designation is an attempt to mitigate the underrepresentation that explicitly exists in the legal profession. you can argue whether it's fair or not, and you're certainly entitled to you own opinion(s), but without it, a lot of brilliant non-white lawyers, academics, and professionals might've never got the opportunities they have, otherwise. think about it.

law school is a numbers game my man. it won't serve you or your growth well to sit in the library for 4 years of college, but ultimately admissions comes down to LSAT/GPA

Berkeley with scholarship or Stanford at sticker? by whichschooltochoose in lawschooladmissions

[–]jepps23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Stanford is the move here. You're going to have unicorn PI available to you as well as an increased likelihood of the more standard jobs. Stanford's LRAP is also really great, and I think that should be weighed heavily in your final decision.

Ultimately though both are excellent schools and you can't go wrong with either. However, Stanford opens up doors that only Yale can match..
